Thread: Disappearing Vette?

So I'm grinding exp in Kessell last night, and along comes the Star Ravager. I think to myself, "Self, let's go kill that fat boy. Good exp/FP for the efforts to wipe out the vette and its escorts, plus it's more exciting than just grinding on these oppressors/aggressors/etc".
So I haul my handy lil' LongProbe out that way (yes, I'm a masochist who enjoys the classics) and proceed to kill off the escort fighters - not without a good fight mind you, I was in a Longprobe afterall - then polish off the gunboats.
By now I'm starting to feel a little smug, as I'm on the way to solo'ing the vette in a tier 2 ship, while at pilot level 3433.
Pick off the rest of the guns (did #5 before the gunboats obviously). As I kill the last gun, the vette disappears. Now stop your train of thought right now of "It jumped out, nub!" I know well where the exit point is, and we (the vette and I, on our intimate little date) were still easily 11km-12km away from it. WAY more than enough time left to finish the job.
But as I blew the last gun, I was hugging the hull of the vette to dodge fire, and the explosion dropped my FPS very very low, casuing me to clip into the hull of the vette. I don't know if that's a clipping failsafe in the game - to just make it despawn or what (if so, bravo! I've seen clipping ruin other games in nasty ugly ways). But whatever caused it - vette was there one second, the next it was gone. I flew around the area for 5 minutes afterwards hoping against hope, but to no avail.
So even though the escort was systematically killed off, and the vette neutered, I never got the closure of finishing off the shields/reactor/bridge for the kill and the nifty screenshot of me parked in front of it giving it the /unknownsalute from my cockpit.
Anyone else have a similar experience, have any idea what would have caused that, or know someone who has seen this happen?
It made me a very /sadpanda.
I havent actually timed it or anything , but I think that once you engage the actually vette, you only have a limited time to get it disabled before it jumps out, end point or not.
Either way, this is why I always disable the vette before working on the side or top guns

Hrm, it's a possibility.

I would say it jumped out, and you have the wrong exit wp. Or it might be on a timer as mentioned above.
Nope, guarantee that isn't the case. Have seen it exit at my stored WP there many times first hand.

Yeah, I should disabled it first on my next run I guess. I just usually like to have the guns all picked off so the disabling is a little easier. Plus the ol' Y-wing isn't exactly the most agile of ships, so not accidentally oversteering into a fire arc has its advantages.

I know I've killed it many times in various fighters and never had encountered it before. Then again it was always in faster more maneuverable ships so it went a bit quicker.
Though the only part of the fight that was time consuming at all was quelling the fighter escort. The gunboats went down pretty quickly and so did the turrets on the vette once I started attacking them.
Anyone else know anything about a timer on the vette being attacked itself? Or does it usually just amble on to the exit point unless disabled?

I've left a disabled vette floating for nearly an hour before, while waiting for people to finish 30 ships. Once you get the engines, she don't go nowhere.
Yeah, looks like I'll just have to bite the bullet blaster fire and do the engines first. It's just not as pretty that way. Guess they just got impatient on board that thing.
Or maybe they just fear the wrath of the Longprobe! (Either that, or they were taking pics of a LP attacking the vette, got a good chuckle out of it, and left to go show their friends.)
Wait a minute, you were stripping turrets while the engines were still going?
Seriously, unless you reply that you had the exit point wp marked and active when this happened, I'm going to say it jumped on you.
I can guesstimate how long it would take you with the ship/gear you mention, and unless you were right there at the spawn, you more than likely ran out of time.
