Thread: Help! I can't kill anything! (OR: Grr... lag bug!)

Okay, so, this is my third time doing a pilot career. My first two times were as Imperial Inquisition: I never had any problems hitting anything with my TIE's.

But now, I'm RSF. I have a Scyck Type II, and I can't seem to damage ANYTHING...

Note, I said DAMAGE, not HIT. Oh, I can hit them just fine, watching shots spangle of their shields with the anticipation of seeing their ships explode in a ball of ignited atmospheric oxygen and fighter fuel, but it never happens!

Here's what the deal is: I've been taking Duty missions. At this low level, there's no point in hitching a ride to DS with the guild. Why bother? I'd have to fly back every ten minutes to train. ANYWAY, I launch into Naboo, head towards the waypoint, all is well. My first few waves are all in Royal Way, and this early in the day, there's nobody else up in space. Simple enough, boost around, get on tail, vape, rinse, wash, repeat.

Then, I get a waypoint that wants me to travel 10k out... WELL outside of Royal Way. This waypoint sticks me righton the edgeof the Naboo nebula. I hate nebula.

As soon as the first few ships show up, I know this is going to be a bad one. I'm not IN the nebula yet, but the lag is already showing. AT this point I can do damage like normal. BUT, the longer I stay near the nebula, the worse things get.

It starts out simple... if I'm on thier tail, pumping shots into them, I don't do damage. Simple enough, just cut speed back a bit, they're sure to loop 'up' away from you and present a juicy target of their top and sides (Can't do damage from below, either)

Then, it get's worse. If I'm within 75m of them, I don't do damage. If I hit anywhere in the back half of the ship, I don't do damage. The longer I fight, the worse it gets, until I CAN ONLY DO DAMAGE HEADING STRAIGHT AT THEM, IN A JOUST, AND ONLY IF I'M 200m OR MORE AWAY! Once they turn even a little bit, or close to within 200m, all my shots are just for show.

What is this? I need help. This is just a TIER 1 duty mission, what happens when I start pulling the tough missions? I'm just assuming it's a lag issue, since it only occurs in high-traffic, or near the blasted nebula. Jousting is never a good tactic in the first place, but try setting up in a position where an NPC is jousting you from over 200m, and keeping it there long enough to vape it. Not happening.

Until I figure out what to do, Space is going to be nigh impossible.

If you hadn't said you had already been a Pilot, I would have immediately believed your issue was typical of the greenhorn. I've seen Pilots doing so little damage to an opponent that it was regenning between hits at such a rate that they were unable to kill it... at all, and, aiming is something that many fledglings have great difficulty with.

I wonder. That certainly sounds like lag, especially the inability to do damage other than head on. Your post makes it sound like this was situational. I don't see a great cross section of experiences here. 75 meters might be far too close if latency is an issue, and you are trailing, or needing to use your flying skills to tag them. Which makes a great deal of sense as far as jousting goes, as, most NPCs will virtually fly through you on a head - to - head, but will evade if being followed, as you stated.

Well, I get the drunken-bumble-bee effect when this is at it's worst... as in, PAST the 200m/joust only point.

It's like gradients of the same problem. I've seen nothing to correlate with times of it being bad and good, except that, when I started earlier today (As in, about an hour before my post here) I had no problems whatsoever. It was the first time in a week I'd tried to go into space, because I had the problem before and didn't feel like cluttering the boards with what was probably just a momentary lag issue.

The problem didn't really start today until my Duty dragged me to the Naboo nebula. That's when it gradually build up until I was jousting at extreme range. After that, no matter where I was, the issue was occuring to some varying degree or another...

It's like the server just throws out what my computer thinks is a hit. Even if I shoot where I think the server thinks the enemy is, unless my computer says it's a hit, the server doesn't bother to check (and when it DOES check, it realized my shot didn't hit where IT thinks the enemy is.. so it discounts it.)

Annoying, it is.
