Thread: Its time to get locked forward turrets on Multiplayer ships!

I'm flying around in my YT and having a great time but I really miss the ability to lock the turrets forward and fire like in X-Wing Alliance. That fact that my YT handles like a flying brick and is as large as a bus is more than enough to make it miserable to dogfight with. The only good news is that I might take a few hits before I die. I believe that players being able to move the turrets in 360 degree rotations is a good enough perk to have for multiple players but otherwise allow the turrets to be locked forward and the pilot to fire them.

After all, Han says he can do this in COPL, and you can do this in X-Wing Alliance and other games. This would make more people take out their ships other than to store furniture on. What say you all?

This is really an option every gunner-type ship needs. If we're going to fly around in glorified crates we should at least be able to use the weapons systems without help.

I say "other games" are not MMO. I say that in almost every reference made to it, the Falcon's autofiring wasnt as good as a live gunner, and that it was never made clear if the system itself wasn't one of Solo's "special modifications" Unlinked guns forces you to make the choice to do what the ship was designed for (in swg), to get multiple people up in spacetogether. When I wanna fly guns under my control, I fly my personal ship. No MP ship with linked guns would ever be able to compare, and I wouldnt want it to.

I doubt that Han Solo had to modify his ship to have the guns fire forward. He had to put in the special military grade weapons obviously, but I doubt that the manufacturing company that rolls out those transports would leave a pilot unable to utilize the weapons should he find himself alone. The people that bought these probably didn't always buy them with the intention of having a three man crew. A multiplayer ship with the ability to fire its guns forward would be little more dangerous than one lacking the ability because it's still three times the target for any other ship firing at it.

Watching ROTJ last night, and I noticed (apart from the uber-speed-h4kked refire rates) that when the Falcon was dogfighting, there were forward firing guns, and it didn't look like they were from the turrets.

Go watch it again!

I'm taking it as that you have a crew who goes with you everytime you want to take your ship out. Thats great! Boy, I wish I had a crew! Thing is, even in an MMO, people want to do their thing and that 99.9% of the time means not being my turret gunner. Sadly its true. Splitting the loot they can get on their own does not appeal to them. If we don't come up for a use for multiplayer ships no one will use them for anything other than storing furniture. Sure you can take them out with other people, but how often does the majority of the player base get to do that? You are the exception not the rule.

There's an extra set of guns on the bottom (or maybe it's the top, I don't remember) of the Falcon that pop out from the ship. These are a custom modification by Han. You can also see these guns come out in ANH in the Mos Eisley hanger seen and blast a Stormtrooper.
These weapons should be in SWG, a third weapon slot on MP ships. These weapons would fire forward and be fired by the pilot. To continue the feel of being a "custom modification", perhaps a Smuggler should have the ability to "slice" an MP ship and add the third slot.

Those are anti-personnel weapons. They weren't meant for other ships.

i think there should be an option to add in a pilot forward firing gun. this would aid in makeing the MP ships more useful in battle. also this would mean that you could take your MP ship into space and travle to the system where your friends are, not just travle there.

the other alternitive is to have the option to "buy" crew for the MP ship. the ship could have NPC gunners and repair droids. you would go to the NPC where you got yuour master missin and he could assign you a 5 man crew for X credits or FP ( depending on your ground faction ). these NPC's would be like pets, you would need to stock them with the repair kits if there engineers. you would have the same crew till you choose to releave them, and get a new crew.

you 5 man NPC crew would have

2 guners
3 repair crew

you assing each crew member to a turret or location on the ship. gunners would target colsest enemy ship and repair crew would patrol there section of ship. if damaged they would fix it, if there cought in a plasma leek they would die and you would have to get a new crew man upon landing.

anyone else thing this would be a solution to our problem of the MP ships?

Actually, the guns that pop-out under the Falcon were added by Han after ANH due to the Stormtropper raide in Mos. You see them for the first time in ESB. And they are not designed for ship to ship, but person to person.

Great idea! I completely agree that you should be able to control any guns from the bridge. Locking in forward firing is a great and logical way to make the multi-player ships more useful.

Ah. Well, still, they can always be added into SWG as ship combat blasters. We can't fire on ground troops, anyway.
