Made 4333 pilot a few days ago and picked up a TIE advanced chassis and dumped all my parts from interceptor into it. I looked at a thread about maneuverability, tried a TIE aggressor for 5 minutes and promptly deeded it, I swear it felt like a tie bomber and for some reason the guns were bugged. I took a gunner up with me and everytime I pressed the trigger the turret gun would fire out the back

Back to the thread on hard numbers for ypr/mass/speed etc I noticed a TIE heavy had double the values of an advanced for pitch and yaw, and a modest increase in roll, and a 90k+ mass???

That doesnt make any sense, it's a ship available at 1xxx yet has more mass and maneuverability then a 4xxx ship?

Am I not understand something here? I bought one and loaded my advanced tie engine into it to see "how it feels" and I couldnt really tell any difference so I pulled up the ship component screen and looked at the numbers in the upper left hand corner. I have no idea what I am looking at here:

Speed (Max): 101.8

Yaw Acceleration: 8.7

Pitch Acceleration: 8.7

Roll Acceleration: 4.4

Yaw (Max): 1.0

Pitch (Max): 1.1

Roll (Max): 1.0

The rest is chassis/shields/mass etc.

The current engine:

pitch 61.4

Yaw 60.1

Roll 60.1

Top Speed 101.8

Can anyone shed some light on what this means? Meanwhile I'm getting back in game (crashed) and putting that engine into my advanced and comparing the numbers. But if those above numbers mean that no matter what the top half is, I can only get a max of 1.0, 1.1 and 1.0 then I won't be a happy camper! Why even bother with better engines if there is a "cap" it seems.

One thing you need to remember is that the Heavy TIE is a new ship that was added with the ROTW expansion. Until ROTW came out, the TIE Advanced had more firepower and mass than any other TIE that was designed for speedy dogfighting rather than bombing duty. Even in a post-ROTW situation, the Advanced has one significant advantage over the Heavy: the second gunpoint (it's also faster than the Heavy, but since the YPR on the Heavy is better, you don't really see the speed advantage as much).

The easiest thing to do as a new Imperial Pilot is to get a Heavy and never change to other ships. However, I think you lose the feel of being an Imperial Pilot if you do this. Part of what makes being an Imperial challenging in space is that we have low-mass ships. The ROTW ships kinda threw the original balance of JTL out of whack. Pretty much all of the ROTW ships are 'better' than the original JTL ships. Since I've become an Ace, I spend a lot of my time going back to check out the ships that I either dismissed or skipped all together.

In terms of what those numbers mean, you'll want to check out the FAQ for a good explaination. The quick answer is that all the stats for an engine are better when they're higher. Looking at your engine, I'd say that you could probably do a lot better at 4333. In an Advanced, I'd suggest you start collecting stuff to get RE'd. But in the meantime, you should get a crafted Mark IV engine versus whatever you have now. The FAQ will show you the hard cap for each of the different ships. Trust me, your engine is NOT suffering due to the caps.

P.S. Most of us on these boards agree that the Agressor is a singularly horrible ship. It's firepower is no good for it's sluggishness and its mass. Sure, you can have a gunner in it, but other than folks who want free xp, I've yet to find anyone who enjoys being a gunner in an Advanced. To say it's frustrating is to insult all things that actually are merely frustrating.

I flew the advanced and checked out the numbers, it seems the first group of ypr numbers indicates the chassis, since the advanced was lower, and those first sets of numbers stayed the same even when I put a lvl 1 engine in both.

The second set indicates the engine itself, and those numbers did change accordingly with engines, which makes what the numbers stand for about as clear as mud or as clear as the number on weapon pup's (which I still have yet to master)

All my engines suck I know But waiting for another 400k xp and 4422 pilot I have a RE'd 78/76/79/95 engine that I paid dearly for, I just wish it had a little more top speed. I can actually fit it into my advanced, but I'll have to dump the lvl 7 guns and go with a pair of RE'd lvl 5 guns. Even though the heavy is "better", I still lean towards the advanced, I just like the looks of it, and the two weapons points. I don't agree that we even have ships with so much mass that make it easy for almost anyone to load whatever they want into it. I had to put a lot of near-spreadsheet work and time and money and trips to vendors and making friends with master shipwrights to make my advanced into a good ship.

you have a low end engine. I know how many people talk about speed on an engine is important but I think Maneuverability is more important. Can not shoot something down if you can not get behind it. I have looted engines with high 60's ypr. ag... 67 or so. not great . I have seen people talk about having ypr in the 70's and 80's. My ship with the 60's ypr gives me the ypr max at 1.2 .

sooo, no cap to worry about. but it will take money to trick out your ride. I was rich until I started going in space.

not many ties have 2 guns. only advance, oppresserand JSF. and the rebs are so jeouse that they trash talk the JSF and get one themselves ( not all of them of course but enought to make you mad). Mean while they have ships with 4 guns. LOL. The only thing the JSF is better then then the reb verson (bub-22) is the hit box, which does not really matter unless you PVP. In that case , they should use missiles , just like shooting at the RGI.

LOL
