Thread: Y-8 and Pub 24

Anyone know if we need to unload the Y-8's components before Pub 24 rolls in?
With the addition of two new hard points we might have the same problem we had when they added the cargohold hard point to the other ships.
Stuff ending up in the wrong place, phantom mass, lost componenets and all that jazz...

I'd unload it anyway just to be safe.

Where in the world did PvP come in?????

In my opinion, POB ships are NEVER going to be really useful for PvP. Their manuverability and hit profile are just too bad. In order to make them viable, the shields would have to be HUGE. Under which case, PvE becomes a complete joke.

As for the original poster, I would have thought that you would have to redeed the ship to get the new turrets.... But, that said, I would advise removing the comps. At the end of the day, for how little effort, is it really worth the risk?

tier 4 and 5 PVE vs fighters is already a joke for every single player out there. the only difference between a player dominating PVE content and floundering at it lies in his/her knowledge of game systems. increasing a POB's shields would not change that aside from giving them the survivability that a single fighter already enjoys.

hard content, like the ghrag gunboat duty, would still be extremely difficult for a 10, 20, or 30k sheilded POB due to the rapid soaking of damage from a gunboat on a POB's enormous hull, so your assertion that PVE would become a joke is misplaced anyway.

also, PVE concerns should never drive discussion on how to fix PVP. like it or not, in a game like this the amount of original NPC content that can be added is finite. only bad pilots do not progress to the level at which all NPC AI is suspect. true content is player driven against primarily player opponents. as the only way to create originality is through the unpredicability of OURSELVES. everything else is taken apart by good pilots in minutes, and digested by poor pilots in days/weeks/months. setting the bar so low is a horrible idea, PVP should drive balance decisions first, with PVE adapting to compensate. not the other way around.

or else you have a game like we have now, with plenty of "content" but no substance, with the only interest remaining lying in sporadic PVP, efficiency concerns and a complicated loot collecting system. 2/3 of game "content" is delegated to a spreadsheet. that's the real joke.

Sigh I really don't know what some of you guys are smoking sometimes...gimme some.

Anyways...as a precaution I've unloaded all the components from my Y-8.

I don't think we have to redeed a the chassis because when they put in the cargo holds, no redeeding was required.

The redeeding however was used to get rid of the phantom mass (due to components ending up on the wrong hardpoints) that was aquired during the cargo hold addition.

My thought is, even though the current patches have been working better than most of the previous and they are concentrating on bugs, I ain't risking it. It's deeded. It will stay deeded till I read the all clear here. THEN I will craft new POB parts and throw em in there.

fixed in publish 24, no eta on it going live.

I had one Y-8 pre 24 and it had no problems with the new turrets being added.

NB: Any comments I make on TC code can and often do change
before they reach live and may not reach live at all, please read my
comments with that in mind.

Wouldn't hurt to unload it, though considering the last time this was a potential problem it was addressed before hitting live and I haven't heard about it being an issue this time, we should be safe. Eh, you never know though.

As far as POBs and PVE/PVP balance goes, I think there are ways to improve their viability in PVP without throwing the PVE game off. (To address the argument that, once you get good enough, there really isn't much to throw off in PVE, I'd like to assume that won't always be the case. So I generally think it's unwise to want changes that, while they wouldn't negatively impact the current state of PVE, could create a completely new set of problems if and when more post-master PVE content is introduced.) For all we know right now, though, the new parts might be enough to give POBs a place in PVP, and while I do suspect it'll take a few more changes to really get them balanced, I'd like to see how things play out in the new system before setting my opinion on the matter.
