With the addition of the pulse pounding Inspect Stuff missions, that list also pretty much sums up the mission types in X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs. TIE Figher: Balance of Power, and X-Wing Alliance. Honestly, with minor variations, that's basically the mission list for every flight-sim I've played too.

That's what the mirror attached to the side of my monitor is for, rebel.

...Rebel? What are you talking about?

No idea. Must be the Neutron Pixie talking. That, or my TIE pilot's suit is cutting off the oxygen to my brain again.

Yeah, might be a combination of factors.

A guild mate trying to get me to make a decision about staying with the game(or i thought he was anyway) recently said this to me. Do you guys feel like theres some truth to this? Do you think most people in SWG feel this way? It makes me really sad and even less inclined to keep playing.

Unlike you I found space to be the worst part of this game and to be honest the most un needed part. And before you say I dont like Space games and Flight sims I am a pilot and love them. The space part of swg is like climbing into microsoft flight sim that came on floppy disk. It is that bad. The controls suck it takes forever to pitch and yaw (especially in a freaking vacuume) the laser blasts are fair and the sounds are fair. the hud is from the 1980's and the mapping system is a complete joke. Over all the space portion of the game is in serrious need of fun factor. Speed up the ships boost up the combat make it more difficult and more engageing and I am all over it. Right now All the quests are the same kill this guard that board this and that and you are done. Ace pilot was easy to get to and I can count on one hand how many times I have been up since. The only times I go into space is to help a guildie out on a mission. Ceylan that is why you dont like SWG cause your favorite part is the worst part of this game.

my response:

since you brought it up, surely you arent telling me that the "generate lair of random dinosaur...kill kill kill kill loot" or "talk to unpronouncibly named npc, go here, agh! ambush spawn, return to npc, collect credits and simple bowl" is any different than the admittidly stale "guard this ship for 25 minutes as it circles the sector"

it does amuse me though that my favorite part of a "star wars" game is considered by many to be the most worthless when its one of the only parts of the game that really allows you to be IN star wars like the movies.

Most people who think space is too slow flew through Tier 1 and maybe part of Tier 2 and said "this sucks." If they would've stuck it out into Tier 3 and Tier 4 they'd realize it isn't nearly as slow anymore--just like the lower tier quests are sometimes incredibly easy on the ground. Higher-end content for both ground and space is far more challenging.

And my reflexes can barely keep up with space PvP.

Turns too slow? Did he use the prototype stuff the whole was to ace? I think the ground is the worst part and neveruse it foranything but get to my house and ship. (That's one of the reasons I didn't make a big stink about what's going on lol.) I agree that the missions are somewhat tedious sometimes, but at least our tedium takes some skill at the moment. Some people just aren't cracked up to be Aces.

Space requires you to get off your arse, get some equipment and get some knowledge (Droid commands, for example). This is why it is seen as inferior to the macro-running, kill-kill-kill-train skill-kill-kill-kill-loot crowd.

You may want to point out to your friend that the reason the ships roll, pitch and yaw at those rates, and perform in that manner, is that they are Star Wars ships, and are pretty damn good copies fo the ships in the films!

Too slow?

Must have not gotten very far into the space tree alright. I'd like to corkscrew in on these people at 1100 speedand cheese them with my twin 3k DMG guns, then ask "That fast enough for ya?"

people don't like space because they can't eat their fatburger while waving a lightsaber. same rationale produces the pages and pages of rediculous trolls in the NGE general discussion and game discussion forums and to a lesser extent some of the other testing forums.

I think pilots will do well out of the NGE. Twitch is our bread and butter anyway

With such a condescending tone and elitist air that your guildy has I am going to assume that he has a Jedi toon...

No seriously, as bogus as his synopsis is he does share one major thing with the majority of SWG players and that is the unwillingness to have an open mind. He seems to be wanting the type of Space Combat that Battlefront 2 provides which is very fast paced and can easily be picked up by a 5 year old. Him claiming to be a pilot but not appreciating the complexity of SWG piloting seems rather odd and suspect. If that was my guildy I would probably laugh and switch the subject, just the tone alone is enough to make me think it's a personal problem he has with space and nothing to do with the game mechanics.

I asked him what piloting stuff he likes and he said Flight simulator 2005 (can there be anything slower and more tedious than pretending to fly a real plane?) and janes.....janes what im not sure, regardless, there hasnt BEEN a janes anything like in over 5 years.

He is in fact a jedi, is very opinionated and condescending but actually seems to be itching for the NGE.

I dunno, i mean, i love rogue squadron 2 and 3 on nintendo, but damned if i want to play that on a PC. that kind of game works great for a gamepad. With a joystick though? no thanks.

The most annoying thing though is that to some extent, hes absolutely right. While the ground missions have made some sigificant improvements over launch, especially in ROTW and from what i hear, ToOW, our space missions arent any more complicated than, go here and kill waves, or follow this ship and kill waves. mixing in ground stuff is a nice step i guess, but it still ends in the same 2 kinds of space quests.

I wish i could put the jtl engine on top of XWA.

I have started to enjoy space aftre I bought JOYSYICK. My biggest problom is I can tfond anyone to help with the missions on the kaura server. I am stuck on the third tier becouse tier four ships begin to attck me while I am trying to kill a tier 3. I have kept trying and will contine to try and maybe someday, perhaps sense everyone will be getting jts now, I will find some help. Space is better then crafting in my book!!
