I read somewhere that people were assigning weapons and the tracker beak to a specific button for use in space. How do you do this? I have looked in the help and the options screen ad cannot find where you can specificly target a weapon to a button.

Pleasehelp, I want to use my tractor beam when mining, but cannot figure this out.

You have to get into your keymap.

Once there, you need to first figure out which weapon group you have your Tractor Beam loaded into.

If you can't figure it out, then it just becomes trial and error. Basically, set up wep group one to fire with whatever button you want to use. If that fires the tractor then you are good to go, but set up the other weapons to fire on the other keys you wish. If wep grp one doesn't work, rebind it back to what it was and try wep group two.

Wish my main rig wasn't down so that I could actually get in game and tell you exactly .... 8)

Not sure if you were asking about weapon grouping, which is brought up with the 'g' key in space or not. This allows you to assign weapons to groups and those groups correspond to the number keys on the keyboard. Personally I just group my mining laser and tractor beam together. The graphics are a little annoying, but my capacitor can handle it so I get over it.

Between the "g" key and the keymap function under "Options" (ctr+O) you can work things out to how'd you like them. As it was said above, it requires a little trial and error and you need to be launched to do it, so hang around the space station until you've got the setup you want.

Actually, there's no need to assign the tractor beam to a group. There's a key binding in the Keymap, under the "Ship" category, called "Toggle Tractor Beam". Just bind that whatever key you want to use.

Weapon groups one, two, and three are already bound to the number keys accross the top of your keyboard. If the tractor beam is in weapon group one, hold down the number "1" key and it will fire it only.

Actually my tractor beam was default bound to the "6" key on the main keyboard
