Thread: Saitek X52 owners: help?

I just purchased a Saitek X52 flight system. Using mouse and keyboard, I found it hard to execute certain manueversand I was hoping that the X52 would help .

First off, let me say Iamvery pleased with the numerous buttons and pov controls. The separate throttle stick is quite nice and has great response. The configurability of the flight system is top notch. The look-and-feel is fantastic.

All of this being said, I'm having hell just trying to keep a tier 1 TIE in my target box! The X52 joystick seems to be biased in cardinal direction movement, NSEW; making a sweep from N -> NE -> E is almost impossible for me. Diagonal and semi diagonal movement results injerky, hypersensitive movement in the X or Y direction. And as we all know the ships never move in a straight line

Another difficult thing for me is changing direction E<->W or N<->S; this involves bringing the stick across the diameter of the deadzone. I zoom off in god knows what direction as soon as I pass through the deadzone; but If I try to move very carefully, I end up just "floating" through the deadzone for couple seconds, and I've lost sight of the enemy by that time.

The joystick controls are jerky and unwieldy. I have tried all manner of configurations, adjusting both the ingame deadzones and the driver controlled deadzones, and the ingame sensitivities, across their entire ranges.

Everyone seems to rave about this joystick, but it's nearly unfeasible for me to fly with. Can any owners of an X52 system help me out? Has anybody else experienced this?

Are you using the default axis setup? Because I change Yaw to Twist, and Roll to East-West axis, so it flys like a plane. That may help. If your already setup like that, dont know what to tell you. I dont really have a problem keeping targets in my sights. Unless its an A-Wing, I fly a TIE Bomber(love my Bomber).

This is my only worry about getting a joystick. I use mouse and keyboard because I find I can aim perfectly with it, but I'm not very good with evasive maneuvers. I figured a joystick will help, but I don't want to sacrifice my accuracy.

The x52 is everybit as accurate as a mouse.

Have you tried resetting the in game controls to default?

Set your dead zone to about 4 notches and sensitivity to allmost maximum.

In the sticks profile make sure the stick is set to axis. Y an program the stick to act like a D-Pad on a consol controller.

A gamepad might be easier to use. Since the stick is much smaller, you can make much faster movements with it.

Changing the Yaw to twist and Roll to east west helped a bit.

I also was flying an X-Wing, so I tried the joystick using my Y-Wing longprobe because it has similar handling characteristics to the TIE Bomber.

However, I still am getting better control out of my mouse, and the "jerkiness" or "stickyness" of the joystick persists.

I don't understand what you are trying to say here.
