I've got several toons I'm flying with on different servers, but my main ones are at the beginning of tier 2 and I'm not doing very well. I suspect part of it is tactics and part is that I'm doing it with a gamepad. But I'm having a lot of trouble flying a Y wing. It's not terribly maneuverable and that seems to be a real drawback. I have the money to buy one, but I just wonder if it's worth the cost. They are going for 400-500k. Not that the price is outrageous, but I just want to make sure it's worth the investment. I've read stickied posts over and over til my brain turns to mush. I'm starting to figure out a lot, but the jump from T1 to T2 seems to be pretty steep. I know a ship will not solve all my problems. I just wonder if it could help solve some of them.

A Z-95 is definitely going to be more maneuverable than a Y-Wing. At Tier 2, though, the Y-Wing should do fine.
Comes down to your flying style. If you like the way the starter Z-95 handled, then you'll like the way the Heavy Z-96 handles; they're identical except for mass. Can't really tell you if it'll help you specifically, but I personally prefer maneuverability over mass.
What parts of the missions are you experiencing problems with?

YES. This thing is amazing. I'm currently soloing Tier 4 with my Heavy Z95. Yeah, you have to have good equipment, but the Heavy Z95 will hold that equipment, which is the first step.

Lol. The part where they shoot me down faster than I shoot them down. Tried the first mission on Lok and got overwhelmed. I just wasn't ready for the level of comp I got from those Tie fighters. I realized that time is not your friend and you have to take these guys out rather quickly. It was just too hard to aim with the Y-Wing.

On my other toon I was doing the missions out of Dantooine. These were just the training missions. Got through one wave and headed back to the station. Another wing of TIE's overtook me. I realized afterward there was no way I could have outrun them. I basically just gave them a really good target. Like I said, a lot of it was my tactics. But if you aren't confident in your shooting, bad things will always happen.

Those lok missions didnt give me any problems in my ywing, try getting a decent level 5 engine with a high YPR, speed shouldnt be that big of a concern, get a level 5 shield with at least like 700 front and back, and a good set of level 5 weapons to use. The mass will never get filled up. Just slap a reactor in there to provide enough energy for what ya need.

the heavy z really shines on your second mastery. At that point you have it loaded out with level 8 components and able to fly it at novice. makes the first 3 tiers fly by.
