Reb friend in an X-Wing

Me as an Imp in a TIE Interceptor

Get the 4th tier 3 mission to destroy the Karthakk Queen (going up against Nym), invite friends to group, they group, and all my red targets appear white to them. They can't help at all.

Apart from the Karthakk Queen, a Tier 4 Gunboat, in a tier 3 mission, being entirely ridiculous as a mission target, and apart from it being on a ridiculously short mission timer for what the mission requires, my friends can't help me??

What the heck is going on? Why can't they shoot?

Um, that whole faction thing?

Rebs can't help Imps, and my bet is your Neut friend is Smuggler, which is Reb aligned.

Two things:

1) this is covered in the Pilot FAQ stickied

2) You didn't really expect that a reb would be able to help you run missions for the Imperial Navy, did you?

The targets must be factionally aligned with them. It's like you trying to help your Rebel freind and not being able to shoot Imperials. My suggestion would be to find an Imperial pilot to help you out.

I wonder just which Rebel and Neutral squadrons, though it may not matter much for Rebel, given the SS storyline. CorSec or RSF I'd expect to be able to help you, SA I wouldn't.

My neutral friend was with the Smuggler's Alliance (SA), and to my recollection I never had issues targeting anything in that faction, so this was a first. Royal Security Forces (RSF), yes, but as a SA pilot I thought one could shoot at anything.

The Rebel I almost sorta-kinda understood. I get Rebs not being able to shoot at Rebs and Imps not being able to shoot at Imps, but for a Rebel to not be able to shoot at neutral targets just seems arbitrary and weird.

As for this being in the FAQ 3.0 -- I just gave a read-through:
- No hits on the word "white" as in "white outline" or "white target."
- No mention, while searching for all instances of the word "faction" about which ones can't fire on which others.

So I'm not sure what FAQ mention you were referring to, Alyxian.

According to a couple of the Rebel storylines, Nym is loosely Rebel-aligned in the war. Very loosely, but aligned nonetheless.

That FAQ, the one that explains what Faction alignment means in reference to pilots. Right at the top, where it specifies alignment.

As for Neutral targets, they really are not, they are part of a mission you are flying for the Imperial Navy, and that is really what it boils down to. The only ones I have been able to help have been the freelance, and even then, there are missions you can't fly due to faction. Some don't make a lot of sense that way, but basically, it is the same as faction missions dirtside. Remember the early ones, where you are fighting NPC's that are not "aligned" looking? same idea.

Possibly I was a tad harsh on you, but the alignments are spelled out at the top of the post under the "Starting Out" header.
