An Xwing will do good damage and is decent for manuverability. If you are planning to take out large numbers of bomber type crafts, use the Xwing. If you are looking at dogfighting with fighters that are fast and manuverable, then go with the Awing as you will never get hit (if you are good).

the x wing. (the x wing TIE mod is even better) is statisticly the best ship ingame. although i have a much harder time downing little a wings. The X wing would be your best bet

I don't believe there's a single answer to this. It's entirely situational, depends on the pilot's style of flying, and also how you have your ships configured.

The X-Wing is a great general purpose craft. It can be used for fast and furious dogfights, bombing runs, and pretty much anything else the game can throw at you. From personal experience, it seems like the trick to the X-Wing is the spin. You need to twist and turn and bob and weave ... always.

The A-Wing by design is made to be lightweight and manuverable. It won't carry a heavy load and isn't a major damage dealer. Be careful if you think you'll take some heavy fire because the A Wing is no tank. It's just super hard to hit. Even an unexperienced pilot is hard to hit in an A-Wing.

Ultimately, it's about what you feel most comfortable in. If you've logged 20 hours in an X-Wing and 1 in an A-Wing, you're going to have more success in the X no matter what the situation.

Personally, I tend to use the X-Wing more then the A-Wing, but will sometimes get on an A-Wing kick and fly nothing but for a week or two.

Not far enough into Rebel myself to speak from personal exp, but I have flown with lots of Rebel pilots. For PVE many have tried other ships, but always came back to the X Wing. The A wing shines in PVP though.

I gotta say xwing for killing the gunboats/everything else.

Awing for the vette/isd, so fast guns have a lot of trouble tracking it, plus, fighters have a hard time catching up to it.

true not a damage dealer , but for the vette/isd it does not have to.

Play or quit..... there is no whine.
