Thread: YPR question

WHen hitting V in space it brings up the stats window and you see the YPR acceleration and max, but what do these mean?

I thought that those numbers were affected by the engine YPRs but saw yesterday thatall thereward ships had the same states and surely people on different servers are using engines with far different stats on them.

So what do those mean and how does the YPR on an engine affect a ships manueverability?

The engine YPR is your maximum turning rate.

The chassis YPR is your maximum acceleration rate.

So...

Let's say you put a 70 YPR engine in a Jedi Starfighter. It will take you 70/600 = 0.12 seconds to reach your maximum turn rate of 70 degrees per second.

Then you put the same engine in a Tie Oppressor with a YP of 100 for the chassis. It will take you 70/100 = 0.7 seconds to reach your maximum turn rate of 70 degrees per second.

Oh, btw, your display when you hit the V key does not list rates in degrees.

Thanks Coran_Sienar , i really didnt want to get into this one again

edit:
But for old times sakes, ill toss in my own verbage.

Turn Radius = size of turn circle
Turn Rate (acceleration)= how fast you can travel around the turn radius

Corner velocity = smallest possible turn radius at fastest possible turn rate.

Thats ALL im going to say! (gets too technical and drawn out)

That makes sense, but where do you see the 600 number? and how does that relate to the numbers shown in the V screen? [(acceleration YPR and YPR (max)]

Im sorry, but I still dont see how the YPR on my engine effect the YPR on the V sceen when Im in my ship. I understand the technical terms, just not how they are applied to the numbers Im seeing in my vessel

Top 3 values. Listed as accelleration are static and vary depending on the ships chassis.

IE, a tie advance will always have like 5.2 Pitch acceleration while an A wing will always have 4.4 Pitch acclertation. This never changes, its fixed to the chassis.

What does change is the bottom three YPR values that is listed. As a minimum, you should strive for a 1.2 value. 1.3 is damn good, and 1.4 is uber. On the average, it takes roughly 5 units of YPR thats listed on the engine, to equal a 0.1 increment in the listed YPR value in the components screen.

So rough translation.. 64 engine YPR is around 1.2 - 69, 70ish YPR is about 1.3 and i think you start hitting 1.4 with an engine around 76ish YPR.
