Thread: So irritated I want to smash things...

I am trying to be patient with the CU (I mean, complete game makeover), becauseI hope it will sort out, despite the fact that my crafting empire and combat character are drastically different from what I had enjoyed before. But, I will give it all a shot... After all, they fixed smuggler, right?

I have always enjoyed space, and really have looked to it lately as a break from re-learning a game I've played since its debut. I am an Imperial Pilot Ace with a really really styled out TIE Advanced. I LOVE the new content they have put in space. But until recently, all the quests threw me up against Level 3 stuff at the highest. However, startingthe Red Guard Interceptor has thrown me against a certain amount of Level 4 ships. (In the past, buckets of Tier 5's in Kessel were no issue. I know it is a natural thought progression, but my pilot skill is not the issue here, I promise.)

IRRITATED. These things jump around like a hummingbird on crack. I am in no danger, but it takes me forever to kill them. If this is in response to people claiming space was too easy, it's not really that it is any harder, (the outcome is never in doubt), I am not getting hit, it is just annoying to the point of "Screw this, I am logging".

Does the concept of FUN mean anything to the devs? Didn't one guy at SOE write a philosophical discussion (in a book) of how to keep a game fun? Again, I am having no issue getting rid of them all, it just takes an hour and is NO FUN.

Watching a ship dance around in violation of everything Newton desribed to us, watching the ship move only when I have them targeted, watching them DODGE laser beams. Erf.

ANNOYED.

You may want to check out the thread titled 'Anyone notice anything different about ship AI?' a few threads below this one. It seems to be a fairly common problem right now.

Chill

Its a BUG, report it.

Its an old bug that strikes many people on occasion, but then usually seems to just go away, so try again after server re-start and see if it is better.

It is irritating though, and kind of funny at the same time, hehe.

I have had the same problem. I thought it was lag. My connection is usually very good, but sometimes around 'Patch Day' things can get a bit laggy. I hope this is the problem. I have had trouble with Tier 3/4s. Their changes in direction are way too fast and the 'rubber banding' is excessive (or maybe it is incredible velocity changes). I am usually a pretty good pilot, but lately my bomber strikes are doing most of the killing....it has been very annoying.

I have not tried flying after the May 10 patch. Hopefully something is fixed.

To the folks saying chill, I hear you... I am normally calm and just venting here. (way to expensive too smash things in this room anyways... )There have just been a lot of aggregate frustrations with a game that I really enjoyed and hope to enjoy again...

As to it being a bug,I can't tell you how good it is to hear that. If it is a permanent "feature" or "enhancement" I was going to stay irritated...

Seems to be a bug, affects most systems a little on Starsider (due to the damn rocks I think) but Kashyyk and Corellia seem to be the worst affected.

Kashyyk is near unflyable for me on SS, I wish they would just pull all the new targeting crap. I really do not want to know what is 15k away from me

i'm betting it's serverside lag cause by all the asteroid chunks

No, it's not lag, I assure you. I noticed it the other day.

These ships are now dancing around like a real pilot would/should if someone is on their 6 firing at them. Almost like a player would in PVP. I have some lag in Kashyyk, but not that would account for that. I also never noticed the rubberbanding, or the warping (on NPC ships, anyways), but even in Lok, doing a missiona couple of nights ago, tier 3 A-wings had me going mad trying to catch them in my JS.

It really looks more to me the AI has been DRASTICALLY hyped up, and we now have Corran Horn and Wedge flying all fighters now.

Having just reground Smuggler Alliance from novice to 4444 (just need to do the master missions yet) yesterday and today, I disagree. AI hasn't been hyped up--it's server-side lag from trying to track all those danged asteroid chunks. This morning after restart I had no problem going out and flying and killing things. AI hasn't been improved.

Pretty sure it is lag. This is a condition that's been popping up for pilots since JTL launched (and was granted the excellent moniker "The Drunken Bumblebee Syndrome"), but until now, it's been rare and sporadic.

Most of the worst lag and bumblebeeing is happening in Corellia and Kashyyyk systems, the two places where the most space mining is taking place. As players get through the Y-8 quest, lag should decrease in these sectors, and when/if a shorter lifespan is given for asteroid chunks, we should see a lot fewer problems.

I know it's extremely annoying in the meantime, but this is one of those things I don't see lasting too terribly long.

It's latency, either server side, or graphical (probably both), and it has everything to do with that, not any stealth AI change. Simple reason this is true? I've flown the same sector at different times of day, and based on the number of people, asteroid chunks, missions going on etc., the behavior gets worse or better. There's no reason an AI would coincidentally change on the same cycle as server load.

Think of it this way. You see a ship make a near 90 degree turn. Why? is it because the AI was hyped, or is it because the lag lost track of the ship right before a normal turn, and when it regained track, the ship was pointed in a new direction to the left or right, so the ship gets moved to the new spot and heading. Sound familiar?

Yeah, it's lag. Ships don't move laterally in Star Wars. Not fighters, anyway. Enemy fighters are moving like bumblebees. And that means lag. We're not getting updated on their movements for some amount of time after they do it, so they seem to jump around instead of moving smoothly around.
