Thread: Effects of YPR revisited
Instead i found a handful of statistics that i thought maybe someone else would find useful. Now before i continue theres some basics that i need to cover. Theres three primary statistics we're concerned with.

Definition: Turn radius and rate are the two primary characteristics of turning.
Turn Radius
The "tightness" of the turn circle. If you were to fly in circle, and able look from the top down in 3rd person, the radius is the distance from the center of the circle to your ship , in any given measurment..
( Turn radius is effected by your engine and your ship, (or so we've been told in the past) The YPR values on the engine effect your turn radius, and is annotated by the 2nd set of YPR values in your component screen while inflight)
Turn Rate
How fast your ship can get around the Turn Radius.
( Turn rate is determined by the ship your flying, and is a static number. The first YPR values (accelration) you see in your component screen in flight is your turn rate. )
Both of which effect your.....
Corner Velocity
The speed at which your ship has the fastest turn rate and tightest Turn Radius.

Now, technical babble aside, here's my results from various engines on different ships.
The first ships i tried were a T/I and a T/A. Intrestingly both have the exact same stats.
Their intrinsic turn rate is YPR (5.2, 5.2, 2.6) for both ships.
Now comes the turn radious
Engine #1 YPR (47/52/55) = 0.8 / 0.9 / 1.0
Engine #2 YPR (50/50/50) = 0.9 / 0.9 / 0.9
Engine #3 YPR (63/63/63) = 1.1 / 1.1 / 1.1
Engine #4 YPR (67/68/66) = 1.2 / 1.2 / 1.2
Engine #5 YPR (71/70/75) = 1.2 / 1.2 / 1.3
The next ship i tested was a T/O (tie / opressor).
Its intrinsic turn rate is YPR (1.7, 1.7, 0.9)
Engine #1 YPR (47/52/55) = 0.8 / 0.9 / 1.0
Engine #2 YPR (50/50/50) = 0.9 / 0.9 / 1.0
Engine #3 YPR (63/63/63) = 1.1 / 1.1 / 1.1
Engine #4 YPR (67/68/66) = 1.2 / 1.2 / 1.2
Engine #5 YPR (71/70/75) = 1.2 / 1.2 / 1.3
The results are pretty similar in turn radius. Looking at it, my guess is it takes about roughly 5 units in YPR to effect the decimal measurement of the turn radius. Now exactly how much s a 0.1 difference makes, i think is entirely subjective to how the ship "feels" while flying.
Pointless statistics for the bored. I wish i started this when i was able to fly rebel and privateer ships. would have made an intresting overall report.

Well, the the real question is, how much does 0.1 effect your turn radius?
When i was a rebel pilot, i used two of the above mentioned engines that i swaped in and out in my ties.
The one i used to use was the 50/50/50 engine, purely because of the 90 speed on it. I later used the above mentioned 70ish YPR engine (with an 88 speed) and suddenly my xwing was turning as quickly and as nimbly as my A wing.
That is a very large differnce, but on paper judging by the stats i have listed above, what are we talking maybe what was maybe a 0.2, 0.3 increase? Cant say for sure because i can't use an xwing anymore.

No there was initially 2 (two) sets of YPR on the engine. 1 (one) of those sets of stats was removed because they no longer had an effect and was determained by the chassis. The removed stats (If I remember corectly) was YPR accelleration or something of the sort.
Every stat currently on engines effect how your ship handles.

Correct. Originaly engines had two YPR stats listed. Turn radius and turn rate.
Turn rate is dicated by chassis, and nothing else
Turr radius is whats on your engine.
In short, the YPR on your engine effects how sharp a turn you can make. The chassis dictates how fast you can make that sharp turn.

I didn't do any mathamatical measurements. The stats i listed is whats on the component screen when you press the V key.
