Thread: 'Healing' ships in movies... only somewhat possible in game.

In the movies R2 (particularly) is always fixing this and that on various ships. Take out R2 and the movie would come to a halt pretty quick as all the hero's would die or fail as their equipment doesn't come back on at the very last moment. So if one wanted to semi-simulate that in the game... this might be a way to do it.

Make a small percentage of each ships mass available to store either a repair droid or self repairing infrastructure (Repair droids for Rebel ships that take droids and for Bomber class ships... repair infrastructure for smaller ships.) This space would either allow a rebel's standard droid to have additional repair modules (not the normal droid auto repair modules) or would let other ships have space to put in repair packs. (Percentage so that a smaller ship would have limited repair capability, a large ship would have more as there is simply more room to get at obscure components and a POB would have the most since you would actually have droids roaming about inside to help with the repairs).

Essentially you would get another droid slot for most ships where you could either associate a repair module or a ship repair capable droid (Rebels in smaller ships that take droids would have to associate the same astromech that is already associated with the ship). Once the droid or module was properly associated you could add Ship Repair packs into it based on the rating of the Repair Level of the Module, or how MANY Repair modules the Astromech has (limited by its astromech rating and by how many the droid model can hold), much like Chaff or Missiles are added now. It would be best to make the Ship Repair pack an entirely new item, as the current All component ship repair kits would be far too powerful.

This would give you access to a repair command and an automatic repair option. The command would automatically repair an amount of damage

A droid would repair one component significantly and quickly, all the while taking your droid out of service. A repair module would repair all components at once but slowly and not count as a droid command with timer (other than its own timer). While your ship is repairing it would be under a temporary effect similar to the Rebel Vampiric Repair (or whichever that is), so you could use this ability while in the heat of combat... 'C'mon R3!!!' but you wouldn't want to if at all possible.

Yes, this would make In Space Repair kind of obsolete... but the solution to that could be to make In Space Repair repair fully (Its a freighter designed specifically to repair ships whereas the space stations are mostly for space traffic control so that makes some sense). Still kind of ruin's the ability.

Anyway I wrote this mostly for fun cause the truth is I so very rarely find myself dead in space compared to suddenly at the space station.

I aim to misbehave!
