Thread: Game Breaking Mining Bug

I have a serious mining bug and I'm wondering how many others out there are having the same problem. Basicly, any asteroid that bounces off zone boundaries becomes unmineable. For the first few minutes of a mining operation, this isn't so much of a problem. But by the time I've got about 50% of my large starfighter hold full, there are so many unmineable asteroids floating around that I can no longer determine which ones are the mineable ones that I just blasted off the main asteroid. The fact that most asteroids are situated very close to a zone boundary compounds the issue.

The bug has become so frusterating that I'm going to just giveup on mining until it's fixed.

I wouldn't say it's "game breaking", but it is indeed very annoying. When an asteroid chunk reaches the end of a zone, they should simply disappear. But they sit there forever and are immune to mining laser fire.

I find it game breaking beacause after 5 minutes or so of mining, there are so many bugged 'roids floating around that I spend 95% of my time shooting with nothing going into my hold.

Well, don't shoot 20 asteroid chunks loose but only one or two, its easier to keep track of them.

Just watch your own co-ords - if you are over 7500 or -7500 on any stat then it's best to head back to the main asteroid and write off the chunk as lost.

The devs are aware of this as with so many bugs, but just don't have the time to fix them all.

I have three tips to help you avoid this situation.

First, when breaking up a chunk into the smaller chunks, continue firing, even after it finally breaks into several smaller pieces, because those pieces all start at the center and radiate outward, those next few shots will hit several before they have a chance to move away.

Second, try choosing asteroids near the center of the system you are currently in. If there are none near the center, than try choosing asteroids as far from system borders as you can.

Third, when using a starfighter to mine, select one with a turret, and bring a friend along, this can help you speed your mining up.

If I dont get the asteroid before it drifts about 2k away I just let it go cause its not worth the time to chase one down when you can shoot another off the main and not have to travel all the way back to it.

Yup do it to asteroids within 2k and with the blue target square otherwise they are a waste you are unable to mine them.

One more thing to note.

I am really sick of trying to target an ship and getting 20 some odd "asteroid chunk" targets that are 19000 Km away.

Sometimes 'target nearest enemy' is targeting asteroids that are farther away than ANY ship in the sector.

They'll fix it (I also think that Smugglers will get to actually smuggle.........eventually)
