I'm at Imperial Inquisition 4.4. Any advice for soloing this? I can make it to the gunship, but haven't figured out how to survive the initial onslaught of eight tier4 fighters and the gunship. (My current plan involves more people, but I'd love to hear how you all soloed this puppy.)

if your patient and fast- get in there drop a bomber strike on the gunship- then keep distancing yourself from the fighters (by outrunning them till the drop agro) turning back and killing 1-2 as fast as possible. if you do this you can easily solo the mission. In fact I did the Corvette- and 9 more since the same way

ok, call it cheating/exploit if you will, and i have no idea if it is. but if you can solo this mission, great, but even better with a group of 3.
1) have 2friends follow you to system waypoint ungrouped. if you're grouped, missions are 10x harder for some reason. if you hyper to a different part of the system while grouped on a mission, the enemies will follow you.
2) when ungrouped and you mission begins, have groupleader invite you soyour friendscan help you out. if groupleader doesnt invite, friends cannot, will not be able to attack the enemies.
3) after that mission is done, disband the groupwith eachcompletion of amission update in your quest log. then revert back to step 2. with that, you missions should be a lot easier to handle.
i hope this helps you out

I've had a big problem maintaining distance. Those syks keep catching up. When I turn to face them, the bombers and the gunship catch up. *sigh*
I'll keep working on it. Had help from one person last night. That helped a great deal. I didn't have to hyperspace at all. But then, I took two missiles in 10 seconds when I tried to gain some distance on that gunship. Dratted bombers.

if you can fit it the reward 9.2 engine with engine overload 3 gives you nearly 1200 spd without booster- course you would have to have one... hehe. with that engine no npc can keep up with you if you need to run and regen shields.

I'm slowly getting this mission down.
- Get your transmission.
- Hyper out at 95% (the calculations will end at 100%)
- Engage but do not destroy two waves of fightes
- Hyper out and travel to your waypoint unmolested
- Bomber Attack the gunship
- Fly through the fighters, attack one, and run like heck
- The fighters will spread out and behind
- When the gunship is over 3k behind you, turn and take out the fighters
- The bombers may or may not stay near gunship. Take them out next.
- Take out the gunshp. (Easier said than done.)
-- Flee the gunship towards the rear. The gunship has missiles and they hurt real bad.
-- Don't approach from the front either.
-- Approach from the bottom if you can identify the bottom.
I had the gunship down to armor yesterday when I made bad mistake. I really wish that Engine Overload 4 worked, instead of scramming your system. I could really use that speed.

they stopped giving out the 9.2 engine. Now they only give out 7.7 engines

Wheh!!! Done!!! Whohooo.
I learned a few more things and did a few more tricks, and that made it all possible.
For the gunboat:
- Use that 79 engine of yours.
- approach to about 1000m. Launch your bomber strike.
- Go in and tage a fighter. Run like heck. You want them to chase you.
- When about 2-3k from the gunboat, turn and fight.
- See what remains. You may need to go in and take out any heavy fighters that didn't follow you.
Now comes the gunboat part.
- Your bomber striker should be wearing that gunboat down.
- Set off another bomber strike when you can.
- Get near 1k from the gunboat.
- Set hyperspace for the Emperor's Hand and start your calculations.
- Attack the gunship, targeting the reactor and aiming at the nose.
- Don't come at the thing head on. Get above or below it.
- Fire before you see the target reticule. Again, aim for the nose. That's where the reticule will show up.
- Run like heck.
- Hit hyperspace.
- The gunship loses its aggro on you. Set up for another attack.
- Rinse. Repeat.
Getting the gunship to lose aggro is the most important thing. If the gunship doesn't break aggro, it will turn to meet you on your attack runs and hit you with two guns and a missile launcher. That's very bad.
You also don't want the gunship to chase you while your shields regenerate. You want your bomber strike taking the damage, not you.
Three bomber strike can grind the gunship down to damaged components by themselves. You are there to hurry the coup-de-grace along.
Once the gunship is dead in space, just blow it up. That's quicker than taking out the guns.
You've got about 30 minutes. That's plenty of time. Note that the gunship can and will hyper out with no engines. (Yes, that happened to me. Doh!!! I was so close!!!)
That's it. You are done. Next come your master missions. You should already be able to handle tier5's, so go have fun in Kessel.

actually the gunboat is 1 mission before the kessel mission
you now have the wonderful (and 10x worse) capture/kill yt1300 missions with the final mission being kill the medium cruiser and it's escorts... makes a gunboat look like a wimp (remember save that bomber strike for that rather then the yt1300's T_T
