Not entirely useless.

It has a good maneuverability and a good mass, so you could mount a heavy hittinglevel 10 gun in the pilot controlled weapon slot. Not too shabby, considering that very few ships can do this without neglecting other parts of the ship.

I suppose for the rebels and the imps this is true. Now if only the turrets had a bit more useful firing arc.

Well, it is true in those cases where ships have only one forward mounted gun for rebels, anyway. Not much sense placing a single level 10 gun on the X-wing, when you can have two level 7's.

And yes, the turrets could have a more useful firing arc, but overall turrets need to be more useful. (We are too fast and too maneuverable for turrets to be of much use, really).

I have a few ships that only have 1 gun slot (Welcome to being an Imperial Pilot!) With mass like the ARC-170, you can definately have an extremely Viable and very nice loadout. 120k mass is a lot to work with.

Any tailgun position is pretty useless in a fighter, I would just overload this thing with mass.

I know no fear, but rather I instil it in my enemies. I am the destroyer of worlds.
I know the power of the Dark Side. I am the fire of hate.

Thanks for the help everyone. Right now (Privateer 4-3-3-3) I'm not at the point where I can put in one massive weapon, but I'll save the ARC-170 for when I can.

And maybe by then the guns will appear in the correct spots along my wings

I have a quick question for you all regarding the ARC-170 and its weapons. I've looked through the FAQ and wasn't able to find an answer.

Here goes: With my krayt gunship (yes, I'm a privateer) I could fire two or even three different weapons at the same time by pressing the mouse button or by pressing '1', '2', or '3'. The ARC-170 on the other hand, even though it has three slots for weapons, only fires weapon #1 -- never weapon #2 or #3.

Are weapon slots #2 and 3 reserved for my (non-existant) co-pilot? If I'm flying by myself, how can I slave in those weapons and fire them myself?

Thanks,

Buxley

You can't. They're turrets. Just like in a Krayt or YT1300, if there's no player manning the turret, the gun wont operate. ARC-170 requires two gunners by the way, not a single co-pilot.

Otherwords, the ARC-170 is nearly, if not entirely useless for solo flight..and limited for grouped due to angle on the turrets.

Weapon 2 and 3 are turrets, so you will not be able to shoot those as a pilot.

Only way to get those two weapons to fire is to get two gunners to go up with you.
