Hi there - this may seem like a simple issue to more experience pilots, but it's been bugging me since i first launched into space. Many ship configurations are built in such a way that the laser weapon mounts are usually on the far port and starboard sides of the ship.
This means that when both are shot, the distance between each laser is usually quite substantial, which in turn means that if you're close enough to a ship (I usually hover around the 100m mark when dogfighting), the lasers instead of hitting the ship, go either side of it, appearing to never hit. I find myself adjusting my aim to the left or right so at least one laser hits.
Now my question is this: Is this nessesary? If not, how do you know whether or not the ship has been hit? (without having to monitor the top left corner as you fire), and also, does anyone else get this problem?

I have to say I watch the top corner more than I do the leading reticle.
But to answer your question on the convergence, if just one of your lasers hits the target, it does full damage for that weapon.
eg. Kimogilla's second mount is on the wingtips, if you hit a ship with a blast from one wingtip, it does the same amount of damage as if you'd hit it fully with both wingtip guns.
For this reason, the lack of convergence is a good thing! It means you can hit more than one ship at a time if they're coming at you in a horde, or flying close together
