The servers to make that possible would most likely put up the cost so much we'd have to pay $100 a month for them to cover costs.
Bigger zones would be great, but with the current techonology, this is the best we will have.

Yes and no - look on EVE Online's website - over 100,000 star systems (or roundabouts) and they probably (rather, definitely) have a lower operating cost than SWG.
Granted, there's no ground game to tie in, but huge zones with massive activity in them ARE technically feasible. The Devs could learn a LOT about how to run a space extension of an MMO by patterning it after EVE - especially in terms of economy.
I like it when people use unrealistic phrases in relation to a fantasy universe.
Besides, modern spacecraft don't manuever at those speeds. Basic docking and so forth can take hours. If we flew at the speeds you're suggesting, dogfighting would be almost impossible. Just enjoy the suspension of disbelief.
Oh, and by your math, my ship is going in excess of 250 or so. It picks up a lot once you're out of the starter quests.
Interesting point though, if it didn't read like a complaint. I wonder what the speeds on ground craft come out to be?

I think someone crunched speeders out to 30 mph or so once
Honestly, once you're up around 1200-1400 speed--300-350 mph, roughly--it's so hard to hit anyone else going that fast that increasing speeds by any significant factor would result in something I'd call "too much flying, not enough dying."
Starwars ships get in and out of the atmosphere with generous help from repulsors, escape velocity is/can be much lower. Admittedly our ships are still much slower than the speed of sound, but given the size of the area we have to work in, thats not unrealistic.
I recall reading very little about interplanetary travel in star wars but I don't think our low orbit speeds and travel times are too out of whack.

i tried a trial account on EVE a while back.
IT'S FREAKIN HUGE
looks good too, for a game as old as it is

Not sure about that comment.I played a game called Jumpgate, old space sim. The sectors of space had no end. There were two jumpgates around 30k from each other in a grid square and each sector was filled with astroids and enemy fighters, space stations, player owed bases.
What you could do was head for deap space and leave your pc running for an hour and you would still not hit the end.
Now this was an old game (but still running now) and I would take it still runs on the original servers.
also we are talking about a complex space sim, much more complex than jtl.
More Graphically complex? Does its have a ground game? Is it as detailed?
I doubt it on all 3 of those counts. The Size of the zones is what the engine could manage, and what the servers would deem feasable.
As much as i'd like it, with the way the game is set up, and the detail of the game is too much to make these giant zones workable.
