I do not understand these JTL missions.
I ran up to this point solo and quite solidly. (Only failed one mission and it was because I blew up someone I was supposed to caputre :smileysurprised
Now I have a mission that involves killing a Tier 4 Lambda Shuttle. DONE.
Escorting a VT-49 prision ship. DONE.
Facing a wave of 10 Tier 3 X-Wings. DONE.
Killing 4 Tier 3 Xwings and a Tier 3 Gunboat. DEAD!
I tried it solo 6 straight times. Before I could ENGAGE the second X-Wing, I was disabled. I tried it the 7th time with a partner, I was disabled after we killed 2 X-Wings!
Not even enough time to do an in-system hyper jump. So it seems I am stuck here.
(I have ~1800 front and back shield. ~3000 armor front and back. ~65 PYRS engine. 2700 max dmg weapon .67/.67)
What the hell am I doing wrong?

I had a friend go and no dice (He is stuck on the same mission so we have to do it twice.) Actually only the first run will be hard. I have a Bell-22 and Eta2 in the inventory if I can just get this stupid one done.
I am on Chilastra and will be trying this again about 4PM eastern.

I soloed it yesterday with pretty much the same layout you have. The difference is that I was at 2/3/3/3 instead of 3/3/3/2. That level four flight computer, and the appropriate commands, make a galaxy of difference. My advice is to redo your droid commands. I'm not certain, but I think your level three computer should be able to hold Weapon Capacitor Overcharge 3, Weapon Overload 3, and Capacitor to Shield Shunt 4. If you use those, it should be doable. Just joust them all. And use Bomber Strike if it will let you (Bomber Strike hates me. Never works when I could actually use it).

just get a friend who is a master to use bomberstrike3 on it, the gunboat will be toast.

I'm going up there soon. My guess would be to use bomber strike on the gunboat to distract it while taking care of the x-wings yourself, then if the gunboat is still alive, target its engine. Once engine is disable, he's a dead fish, use the 550m+ firing technique to finish it.

Have you considered running a bit? Last night I had to handle a similar sort of mission (though with Smuggler's Alliance) and there was another mission with RSF that was FAR worse ... so I aggroed them and pulled away. The gunboats aren't as fast as other ships, so I was able to turn and joust the following ships without the gunboats getting shots in. This tactic required EO3 and the L6 reward engine, plus a booster.

I have tried Bomber Strike1 on it....it doesn't distract anything.
Does it have a certain amount of time that it takes for them to engage it? They fly in and shoot it once or twice....but they don't do much to it.

You don't even need bomberstrike 1 for this mission, but it can help out quite a bit. What you will need is the droid commands: overcharge weapon, overcharge cap, and a cap.to sheild shunt. The key here is to try and get close enough to the fighters to engage and than turn around, away from the gunboat and get out of its range. If all goes well the fighters will follow, so take them out first, than engage the gunboat using protons on the turrets or use your bomberstrike targetting the turretts first. actually you don't even need missles for this at all, just take out the turrets and the gunboats a sitting duck.
I did this mission solo using an advanced tie, mk1 armor, mk4 shield with fron/back 1900 hitpoints and droid commands overcharge cap2, overcharge weap2, cap to shield shunt2, and some lvl7 re'd loot gun of which the stats I dont remember.

How did you use a TIE advanced for this mission?
The biggest available is Interceptor or Bomber.

It was an interceptor, my mistake.

easiest suggestion would be to find a neutral pilot using a KraytM22. They can pump some serious damage out of the available weapons slots. Target the gunboat first as it will be doing the most damage and wipe it out, if you get just behind and slightly below the gunboat while targeting weapon02 you can drop the rear firing turret and then the rest is easy. Once the gunboat is dead the other ships are nothing much to deal with.
