no other piloting profession has a skill that is useful in pvp combat, why should freelance?

the program should be made so that it will one shot tier5 npc fighters agian, but nerfed so that it does nothing in pvp.

and as for you claiming that we want this nerfed for our own advantage, ramona is a freealnce pilot, and until just a couple days ago i was too. i still have a heavy syck with mkV gear in it, it would be nothing for me to grind corsec agian.

And so it begins. The cries of Nerf. Heaven forbid that we ask for Imperials and Rebels to get an equally effective command! No! Its so much easier to demand that everythingbe stripped out of the game.

giving all pilots a command as effective as epulse would be the WORST thing you could possibly do to ballance this. it would remove all piloting skill from pvp and would become a game of who can hit the button first when in range.

If they are balanced, they are blanaced. Each one would be designed to have weaknesses that can be used by other players, and on a timer, they can't be spammed for 4 or 5 minutes. If there are no ideas yet, you can't say they are the worst ideas! Why? Because you don't know what the ideas are, that's why! There are things that can be put in that would be balanced and would not be a bad thing. People, namely the devs have to come up with them though and put them in.

What next? Privateers and Rebels get ships that can have 3 or 4 weapon points while us Imperials are left with 2! This is unfair! Nerf all the other ships so they only have 2 as well! Wouldn't it be better to ask for an Imperial ship to get 3 slots? No! The YT only has 2 missile slots! Nerf the faction ships! /rolleyes

i think its kind of unfair that imps dont get three hardpoint ships like rebel/freelance pilots do, but that is not a gamebreaking issue like epulse, and in reality the pre-rotw ships were very well ballanced between reb and imp (freelance got shafted with large ships, but this was ballanced out by epulse). it really isnt that unfair that the tie-opp has less gunmounts than other ships because it has three missile mounts, andis a terror in pvp.

You totally missed the sarcasm there didn't you? notice the /rolleyes?

This thread has was too much of a resembalance to the jedi forum threads. Its scary.

jedi dont get a skill that will instagib hostile players around them. they may be powerful, but they arent unstoppable.

You missed that one too...I'm going to guess you are not a regular on the jedi forums? There are many jedi demanding nerfs of all jedi skills but their own. That's what I am talking about...shoot some of them are even calling for nerfs on their own skills.

If you have a problem with the skill, post on ways to fix it or post on ideas for your own faction to balance it.

if you read my post agian, you can see that i DID post a way to fix it; its power in pve should be restored back to what it was before it was first nerfed but it should be made useless in pvp.

Saying that a skill should be useless is NOT giving a plan or idea. Doesn't matter what way you cut it, you demanded a nerf, and gave nothing to compensate for the removal.

Ways to fix it.

Leave the damage to sheilds and range of the damage, but remove its damage to armor...scramble a random component so that it is out of operation for 10 seconds. Remains effective as an AoE attack, but doesn't kill everything.

that would make it useless in pvp and even worse in pve; while it fixes the imbalance, its just a straight up nerf, which is not what im asking for.

Destroying an opponets sheilds and frying a comp for 10 secs would be useless? Whatever. Its a straight up nerf which is not what you asked for? LOL You asked for it to be useless! How much more nerfed can a special be than USELESS?

Ways to balance it.

Imperials get a command that for a single blast, scores a direct hit everytime. It would be on a counter like EP3. This shot would boost damage, and drain the cap pool to zero. Not an AoE attack, but packs a big bunch on one target.

so you thinkimps shouldget a skill that will cause there guns to hita singletarget regardless of if they aim the shot or not? im guessing you want this to have the same 550m range as blasters do? that is WORSE than epulse. with this special you get an attack that will disable or kill a hostile player at TWICE the range of epulse. at least with epulse you can get lucky on the initial head on pass and disable your target before he hits the iwin button; with a skill like this there would be no hope of countering it.

Hmm, maybe when you realize these are just random ideas thrown out that would clearly need refining, you'll figure out they still beat wanting a skill to made useless.

Rebels get an/ehyper command that kicks out a flarethat "blinds"everyone in range for a second and hypers the rebel to a random location 8K away. This command has a % chance to damage other parts on the ship and also rattles the hyper computer requiring a full 5 minute bootbefore another hyper can be made. No damage is done tothe opponets, but it shows the great skill Rebel pilots have developed in using their hyper computers for coordination.

wow, so in your grand visionimperial pilots get a skill that gives them a guaranteed win in pvp and rebs just get the option to run away.... this would totaly kill pvp; no one would even bother fighting anymore.

Again, these are random ideas thrown out. Clearly, since you can not grasp that concept, these are way over your head. I actually like this rebel one and figured it would be a great skill to have. I can't even begin to number the amount of time I have read about pilots that could have used that to live another day.

Wow!Isn't that soo much more refreshing than just yelling nerf?

actualy, i foundyour post quite ammusing, im still laughing asi type this.

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE IDEAS IS BETTER THAN JUST SAYING THAT IT SHOULD BE USELESS!!!!! Get a clue! My ideas where to prove that ideas could be put togther and eventuallyrefined to justify changing stuff in the game. *I am sooo sick of whiney, cry babies in the game that just want stuff removed/nerfed without putting something back into the game to make up for it. We are not here to hold your hand, we are not here to add padding and child proof the game because you don't like something.

Even in your repsonse, you could only continue to say that the skill needed to be useless, and even ridicule random ideas thrown in to get the topic rolling in a direction of balance and improvement. Why don't YOU come up with some ideas then? You seem to think you got the whole thing figured out....let's see!

*note, This is not directed at those that are saying that EP3 has issues and needs balancing while giving actual facts as to why. Its directed at those that feel they just need to jump in and start in with the nerf bat while offering no feedback on even WHY it should be done. Thus it is only directed at a few.

so your idea of giving imps an unbeatable skill and rebels the option to run away is better than removing the freelance iwin button? im not saying that epulse should be flat out useless, it should be made alot more powerful vs npcs but made worthless in pvp. space is about piloting skill and ship loadout, not who can press the buton first.

how many times have i said that it should be made more powerful in pve, are you reading my posts? quit complaining about how we just want it nerfed agianst other playersand not made more powerful in different areas, because that is NOT what we are saying.

read my post, i said is should be useless IN PVP, andto counter that IT SHOULD BE MADE MORE POWERFUL IN PVE; that IS my idea, which you totaly ignored, and keep playing it off as a complete nerf. back when the skill was first nerfed, only a few people were using it vs other players, but alot of freelancers used it for taking out groups of tier4-5 fighters.; these people were pissed off, and im sure most of them would prefer that it berestored to its previous pve glory at the cost of nodamage being done to other players.

im sure most freelance pilots that have fully explored itspoweragree that the skill is totaly unballanced. the way i see it only people who rely on it to survive in pvp are the onces who oppose it getting ballanced

i am presenting a comprimise to fix the imballance in pvp while making the skill more useful in other areas. i think its a great idea, if you dont then come up with a valid agument agianst such a fix. dont just sit there and put words in my mouth about how i want it made completely useless.

i am presenting the fact that it is totaly imballanced in pvp, and providing a solution to that problem .

you are sitting there whinning about me crying for a nerf, and giving some rather strange ideas that would make imperial pilots unstoppable.

This thread is addressing EP3 in PVP. You said that it should be useless in PVP. You can try to twist it around and do all kinds of dancing on it, and it reamins the same. You want EP3 nerfed in PVP, and you gave no alternate or fix for EP3 in PVP. Your idea to make it as powerful as it was prenerf is a PVE fix, not a PVP fix. It is also far less likely to happen than any of my ideas as the Devs already nerfed it because pre-nerf, a privateer with EP3 could wipe out a wave of 5 Teir5s in one shot...that was too strong compared to anything the others had. Not even BS3 can compare to that. The only whining I am doing is about being fed up with people that want to just let loose the Hounds of Nerf. The whining you are doing is "Make it USELESS in PVP!!!!!!11!!!"

I don't know about you, but I already have enough skills that are useless. The devs have done well in making that happen. I don't think we need to give them more ideas on things to take from us. EP3 and other balanced specials can be added to the game while keeping it balanced and still allowing the game to be an issue of hand skillnot button pushing.

fair enough, i can see where you are coming from. i justthink that the only skills that shouldresult indamagein pvpis your real lifepiloting ability and gunnery skills.

the way i see it any skill that can be used to attack an enemy player is going to be either unballanced or just plain worthless. we have to remember that JTL is a twitch game, not a rpg like the gound game is.

one possibility is tocreate new skills that dont inflict damage. your suggestion for a rebel command with a flashbang style effect was pretty neat really, i think that without the hyper part it would be kind of cool to use in pvp. in description it could read that the effect is caused by pumping fuel out the booster for a few seconds and then igniting it, causing a blinding explosion. for a side effect it would completely drain thebooster and make it not recharge for a while.

maybe epulse could cause interference in other ship's sensors instead of doing damage. they could make it white out your radar screen and mess with targeting, causing players' huds to flicker and also short out any missiles that are in flight. the 3 levels of the command would affect how much power it draws and the length of the effect.

im running out of ideas, but imps could get some kind of jamming devicethat makes other players unable to hyper, use droid commands, and perform pilot specials for a short period? i dont want to see it removing overloads that are running, but if it made a hostile player unable to shunt after taking a hit i could see it being quite useful.

mostly i am just agianst a pilot special that inflicts damage on a player or otherwise negativly affects their manuverabilty.

Now you are catching on! I like the flash bang with the booster idea. These are the ideas we need. Things that will get the devs to add to our profession, not strip it dry.

As for button pushing...isn't that what missiles are? It has been the arguement of Pilots for decades as to who is a better dogfighter....one who can get in and shoot you down with guns or one that can take you out from 20miles with an AA missile. The answer is simple I think. The one that gets home after the engagement.

well irl ballance is not an issue, so you take every advantage you can get. in a game it needs to be a little more even.

speaking of missiles, i think new speicals like those would help ballance out the dominance of IR2s in pvp. i could see myself hitting a booster flare at about 700m right when im in lockon range and then closing in to force a gunfight.

PaceNebulon wrote:
Everyone is looking at the danger of epulse as a weapon but as most freelancers will tell you they don't use epulse because if it doesnt' work right you are screwed. epulse1 rare misfires and epulse2 missfires about 20% of the time and epulse3 missfires about 40% of the time. If epulse1 missfires your weapons and sheilds go down for a bit. If epulse2 missfires your weapons, shields, and a couple other system go down for a few minutes. If epulse3 missfires you will loose almost ever system in your ship till you can repair. So in PvP to missfire is death. Happend to me a couple times. So while alot of people are calling for a nerf, you have to look at using epulse as a all or nothing situation for the pilot using it. The upside is he kills everything within 200m the down side is he is a sitting duck with no protection and no way possible to save himself.

epulse does sometimes misfire, but it doesnt disable anything. when i was a freelance pilot i used to bust up tier3-4 ships with it alot and when i got the misfire message nothing happened. iirc it didnt even drain my shields unless the command worked. even then having no shields in pvp is not really a disadvantage because if you are facing a ship with 2 guns like a jsf or bub22, your going to get disabledon the first hit.

Apparently that has changed since you were a freelance pilot. I used epulse3 last night just goofing off in a duty mission. It misfired and disabled my engine, shields, 2 of the 3 weapons on my Krayt, my missiles, droid interface, and weapon cap(not to mention the degrade), but that isn't really the point.

The bottom line is that if you are in PvP and you use epulse you are taking the fast way out of DS or Kessell. If it works you take a couple other people with you... if it doesn't, you make the trip alone.

I don't think any amount of debate about nerfing/changing this command is going to solve anything.

At the end of the day it comes down to individual pilot decency and their reasons for playing the game.

Now as I see it and yes I might be slightly biased by being an Allliance pilot, but Freelancers in pvp won't use e-pulse if what they want to do is pvp..

My freelance friends, both alliance sided and Empire sided, if they go into battle intending to pvp, they won't touch the e-pulse command because it steals away from the sense of skill involved after killing someone and if they don't win...at least they lost honourably.

Nextly, if the intention isn't to pvp but you're overt and faction farming and as a freelancer you're attacked, then I see no reason for them notto use this command. The assailant should be more vigilant and aware that this might happen to them if they attack. Crikey...they're freelancers, mostly smugglers, its a trick which should be expected to be used.

I started this thread and I havn't complained yet..the truth of the matter is that e-pulse is like declaring overt status in space. When you declare and go overt you have no right to complain if someone jumps you and kills you. Sorry but its the truth, as a pilot it is your responcibility to spam the Z button. Going overt is accepting responcibility for staying alive. Now I don't jump people [unless its a big group of them and I can't get away in time if they perhaps noticed me..] but if I am jumped myself, then I accept it.

Same with epulse....anyone attacking someonewho might have theepulse command [and ok..I accept when 90% of people are flying around in JSF's this isn't quite so easy to identify who is frreelance or not] should be aware that in attacking them..they have a good chance of losing if that Freelancer is going to use that command....its part of the game, taking risks and as a pilot, it is your job to adapt and find new tactics.

Everytime you see an overt enemy in space..you do not have to kill them. Weighing up your opposition is part of what makes you a good pilot and accepting that sometimes you may not be able to take that opponent speaks volumes for your maturity as a pilot. There is no shame in avoiding someone if you are pretty sure they'll e-pulse you for example. As someone who primarily pvps in an A-wing [and when I'm in that A-wing I'll always be overt so anyone who wishes to attack me..go ahead, seriously I don't mind. I'm all for encouraging pvp] , due to the mass constraints of that ship, my armour is paper thin and my shield is like cardboard so I can't afford to get hit by anything as aggressive/more aggressive than a Corellian Butterfly. It doesn't mean I'm a bad pilot for not charging into every pvp situation I see and my goal isn't to wrack up as many pvp kills as possible. I'm more concerned over the quality of those kills and how hard I had to work to get them. Equally, if I managed to escape a situation where my craft had been in mortal danger but I'd been able to escape it without making a kill or indeed getting damaged myself, then I'm equally glad.

Make of this what you like.

I completely agree. PvP is all about your skill against someone elses. As a Freelance ace, epulse removes the satisfaction of earning a skillfull kill. However, if I am out grinding FP and I get jumped by an x-wing just because I am declared Imp (happened a couple weeks ago) I will use it without ever firing a blaster.
