You people scare me sometimes. Short post again.

"I think it's time," A'Lerris said finally as the turbolift descended.

"Time for what?"

"For us to strike back against the Zynt'aia."

Halyn rubbed his cheek wearily. "Mark I Z-95s against some of the newest interceptors in the galaxy?" he asked cynically. "You know as well as I do that we got lucky."

A'Lerris shook her head. "They can't just be fielding IRDs," she said confidently. "After all, they used a group of Y-wings and Headhunters to try to take that fuel ship off the line."

"Even then," Halyn said, his voice flat. "They're running superior equipment. We got lucky last time. Next time, the odds are going to be heavily against us, and we're going to take losses."

"We'll have the edge if we launch a surprise attack," the security chief contradicted.

"Attack?" the Rebel asked, raising an eyebrow. "Your group is a loose squad of security pilots, not a military unit."

The woman glared at him. "This is security. You should know as well as I do that sometimes you have to launch preemptive strikes."

Hal sighed. "Look, we're both tired. Why don't we both get some sleep, and then discuss it in ten hours or so?"

A'Lerris looked at him in silence for a few moments. "Alright," she said at last, "let's get some sleep, then."

The Zabrak stepped off the turbolift on the floor of his quarters and headed towards his temporary room, the flow of traffic much lighter this time. His R2 trailed him unobtrusively, oddly quiet for the usually vocal astromech.

An attack on the Zynt'aia can't end well, the pilot thought. They're too well-armed. Even with the edge of surprise, they'll overwhelm and destroy the security forces. It's not like we're flying X-wings up there--they're just old Mark I Z-95s that should be in a museum somewhere. Definitely shouldn't be seeing front-line action, anyways. Then again, unless these guys get a serious upgrade in firepower soon, they won't be able to hold off the Zynt'aia for too long anyways.

Why are the Zynt'aia here, anyways? I think A'Lerris knows, but she won't tell me. It doesn't make any sense for them just to pick off the odd mining ship, anyways...unless there's something more valuable on the station or one of the ships that she hasn't told me about yet. If we're going to stop the Zynt'aia, she's gotta tell me. No two ways about it. I have to know.

He laughed at himself. Listen to yourself, Halyn. You sound like you're working for the Nalera miners, not for the Alliance. I should focus further on my mission, especially now that we've got the Imperial presence on the station removed, at least for the time being.

Though helping the Nalerans defend themselves is really part of my objective, too, he justified. If they're unable to defend themselves, our source of ore will be cut off before long, too. Any contract I negotiate for the ore we need for the A-wings would be useless if the Zynt'aia or the Hutts orValarianor some other Sithspawned pirate group comes through and wipes them out. He sighed. Why couldn't they give me an easy mission or objective?

He stopped outside his door. Frowning, he tapped in the keycode to unlock his quarters. Then again, if it was simple, they would've sent a regular diplomat or trader or...

Halyn's thoughts were roughly interrupted by the presence of another person in his quarters, sprawled across his bed. Elle smiled at him. "I thought you'd never get back," she murmured.

Man, you people are a harsh crowd. I guess that's what happens when your entire community is based around shooting things...

Deuce started to roll forward to subdue the intruder, but Halyn quickly scythed a foot under the astromech. With a wail, the droid toppled forward and bounced twice before coming to a rest. Mournfully whistling, the astromech spun its wheels several times, trying to right itself before giving up. The Rebel pilot bit back a curse from the pain shooting up his ankle.

"Sorry about that. He's a bit, er, overprotective," he said dryly to the Twi'lek. "Deuce, power down."

"It's alright," Elle said, smiling. "No harm done. I'm just glad that you're here."

The Zabrak finally took a good long look at the Twi'lek woman. Her skin was hued a dark purple, and she was as shapely as any slave-dancer. Her clothing was more than a bit revealing--there's less covered than uncovered, the pilot noted wryly--which added to her allure. Her intentions were clear. Maybe a bit more than blindingly obvious.

"Aren't you a bit cold?" Halyn asked, stalling.

"A bit," Elle said. "Why not help me warm up?"

The Rebel laughed. "Subtle, aren't you?"

The Twi'lek rose from the bed. "I try, I really do." She smiled again at him. "I owe you, after all. I would've been killed by the Zynt'aia if you hadn't set up that ambush in the asteroid field. And I always, always repay my debts," she added with a wink.

Hal shook his head. "I can't."

"Oh, I'm pretty sure you can," Elle said, openly surveying him.

The pilot shook his head again. "Not while I'm here representing the Alliance. I'm here as a Rebel, not as myself."

Although he knew his reasoning was solid, it wasn't the complete truth. It's been too damned long--I can't remember off the top of my head the last time. But if I get involved with Elle, it will only make things worse here--worse with Argus, anyways, and he could haunt me if he wants to. Not to mention that would, ah, complicate negotiations with A'Lerris and the Council. "Yeah, I'm sleeping with one of your security pilots, but don't mind that--I'm just here to negotiate with you for ore." That would really work well.

Besides, I've never been fond of one-night stands. And Elle...heh, well, I've known more than a few women like her. This could not end well, even if Argus wasn't here.

Elle glared at him. "No one would have to know."

"I would know. Maybe another time, if I'm ever here as just myself." Not that I'd ever come back to this forsaken system without being forced to.

The Twi'lek shook her head, and for a moment, Halyn regretted his words. "Fine," Elle said at last. Leaning in close to him, she kissed him lightly, then pulled back. "The offer's open while you're still here," she added softly.

The Zabrak half-smiled at her. "I know. But I need some sleep, so you had better go."

"I would've helped you with that," Elle added with a grin.

"Restful sleep."

The door hissed open, and Elle was silhouetted against the brighter lights in the hallway. "I'll see you after you wake up, then." Lekku writhing, she stepped out into the hallway again and the door hissed shut.

Hal flopped down on his bed. "Why can't anything ever be simple?" he muttered. Discarding his shirt, he pulled the covers up again and tried to sleep.
