So in other words, the extended mass/ somewhat lower protection is a sacrifice for trimming some fat off the reactor, and increasing the regen rate (and therefore reducing the amount of shunting necessary)?


Interesting hypothesis. I shall have to compare

Shield regeneration rate isn't 'too' important. Any good pilot will have Capacitor to shield shunt anyhow. True...it takes two shunts at least to fully recharge my shield but that is still miles quicker than letting it recharge on it's own. With Capacitor overcharge 4 though my Cap is recharging hilariously fast for a lvl 2 and fully chargeswell in time for the next shunt. On top of this, I've started using Heavy Front shield adjust because Harotak's new weapon config one shots me outright most of the time =/ and since currently, he shoots me down more than I shoot him down, thats a bad thing . As for re'd shield hitpoints..I lovethe mass but over 2k hp for a lvl 7?! Damn, I feel inadequate . I look at my protecto as a highly advanced and better than a mk IV shield but still..it isn't 'much' better.Itisn't too much of a problem since Idon't get hit too often but when I do..it hurts the ship.


As a going off topic kind of thought..and I can 'cause it's my thread , I fought a GSF who was using a lvl 10 engine with EO4 last night and I won in the end..but he hit metwice first. It is making me think I need to think up somthing slightly different to beat one of those things. Flying in my conventional 'I'm going to spin around you and dodge everything you throwat me' mindset isn't going to work here because even in the hands of a bad pilot..a GSF or JSF with EO4 and a lvl 10 engine can stll easily outmanouver me even if the pilot is just whacking the stick in a combination of random directions.


So it did get me thinking...thenit struck me. I'm not going to hit anything like that at close range so, Istarted flying outwards away from them and 'jousting' them. This makes the insane r,p,y acceleration of theirs somewhat limited now because it means they have to chase me or wait or me to turn around and well...to put it simply, it puts greater distance between us therefor 'stretching' the vectors we fly and making it so simply sharp turning won't get the opponent anywhere because they won't be getting behind me from a distance. Plus from a distance, what with perspective I found I could aim a lot better.


Erm..am I making sense? I reckon this is a tactic I'm going to try a little more, maybe. Thefact is though, this lately, I've been feeling the limitations of my ship and have realised that no amount of further tweaking will make such a big difference [unless I got a bigger shield but I don't want to rely on getting hit a few more times as a way to win. Iaim for not getting hit at all because I'm wierd and aim too high]


I dunno. All I do know as a definite is, it is time for another strategy rethink...or if not a rethink, an expansion on my part.

I've just REed one right now, and frankly i'm just beyond words with it. I was lucky enough to get a 2192 front on one of my characters, which is the highest i'd heard of, until i came across a 2471 back on the bazaar search, it was priced at 3 million credits, so i took the plunge and bought it. I then spent the last few weeks slowly building up my L7 stock pile, and finally got tired of waitifor a decent Regen, so i posted on the forums offering 1 milliong for a shield with over 13 regen. Well i got one tonight, it came in at 13.61 Regen unREed. So i just REed my knew baby and it has:

Armor: 691 (thats a round up one, also from a protecto-net)
Hitpoints: Same as armor
Reactor Drain: 1784 (was amazed to find this on the bazaar search for only 10k)
Mass: 14500 (i forget the exact number, but i was lucky enough to loot a low 15000 L7 myself only a day after really starting on my L7)
Front: 2372 (it auto equaled as soon as it went in the ship, but for a while it had 2465 on the back)
Back: 2372
Regen: 14.15

Its just cut off over 10k from the mass of my JSF, and i've only had to sacrifice 150 HP, and 1 point of regen. I'm mightly pleased with it.

Geez, that's an insane shield. I got screwed on both my Protecto-nets. Both are around 1400 on both front and back. :/

With pretty much every mainstream pilot using capshunt, its sheer folly to waste experimentation points on Regen.

am i the only person using a player made Mark 1 reactor?



less mass, 12300 energy gen. if i run RO4, i can also use EO4, which is a VERY nice thing to be able to run in a JSF.

almost everyone uses a mkI. i sometimes use a l2 re just for the increase in armor though. i hate having to hit ds for repairs after running ro4 twice, and in pvp its like having an extra 100 armor on both facings.

If you care to notice, I mention earlier in this thread that I swapped my reactor for a mk I crafted and a mk I crafted booster with 33 speed. I upgraded my front armour too.
