Thread: Player owned capital ships are confirmed =)
Sylia: "Better yet just make the ISD/Freedom in DS dockable, players could land at them, man turrets, repair systems, repel boarding parties etc. Cost X prestige points to man X station. Ops directing fighter launches.
Would be a blast.
Just picture a group of fighters dodging all those turrets as they come crashing into the docking bay greeted by an entrenched defense squad. Racing down the corridors on the way to the shield generators to plant some explosives. Better yet have multiple positions around the vessel that must be destroyed simultaneously to disable the particular system."

I'd get irritated with that personally. Capital ships sitting around like spacedocks/platforms isn't exactly what's conjured in my mind when I think of epic Star Wars space battles. The whole stationary aspect of it makes it a lot more boring than it would otherwise be.
Guild opperated lesser cap ships would be the way to go, IMO.

remember last fanfest when they said that females would soon be able to loot nightsisters for their clothes like males can get tusken clothes?
I have a Nightsister Armband.
lol d'oh! You know what I meant =P
That armband has been around since beta. Why would the devs talk about Nightsister clothings in last year's fanfest?

Doubt we will ever fly a ISD, unless they make the spacezone alot bigger.
The spacezone are like 10k cubes, the ISD is around 1k no? Not much travel to do
A SSD wouldnt fit unless you put it in diagonaly.
An SSD is roughly 8 kilometres long. Space zones at the moment are 16km x 16km x 16km.

You could just not allow capital ships to have loot boxes. Then there's no reason to camp spawns except pure meanness.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
If I saw a captial ship come in and camp spawns.... I'd let them have it, lol.
Hahaha, I can just picture some newbie'sface as one of those things came in to steal their spawn, lol.
That is so deliciously eeeeevil.

Actually, this has been discussed ad nauseam in outside forums. The official and unquestionable length is 12.4km. 8km is a figure from a hastily-drawn up book that created the whole length hubbub long ago.
12.4km is the true length of an SSD. Needless to say, it wouldn't fit in a space zone now merely because you couldn't keep it from colliding with objects.

lol.. that would be hilariously bad spirited, but I wouldn't put it past someone. A lot of different players play this game.
I was thinking about ways to prevent stuff like that, actually--if cap ships were perma-overt, they could at least be blown up if someone were using their size and/or power for griefing purposes. Problem with that is not everybody's down with PVP and I respect that. The concept most people seem to have for these ships is for use in the GCW, though, so that might be enough to justify it.
That was the only solution that sprung readily to mind, but without knowing the final dev concept on these things (though fishbrains' recent thread was quite elucidating), it's hard to come up with ways to regulate capital ships.

I understand, it just put a hilarious image in my head (perhaps its too early lol). ![]()
And I agree -- it's an issue and all. The first thing I'd like to hear is whether or not the devs are going to allow us to own these things (which, if I read correctly, was up in the air atm). A no xp/no looting option is a sound idea though.
Needless to say, it's EXCITING!!! I didn't think we'd ever see capital ships. I figuredwe'dmaybe seegunboats. Maybe. (As a side note to devs: gunboats would still be awesome
).
Another issue I see is preserving roles. Why should I fly my YT1300 when I have a frickin' Star Destroyer? lol. They would have to (Ihope)implement some things advantageous about those cargo ships and others not about the capital ships. Could be things really simple like not being able to insta-travel in capitals.
And it's good you understand everyone's not into pvp.We allappreciate that. It'd be great to see some GCW connection with them though, likein planetary control above space. Could put some more complicated limiting factors in there too (e.g. only being able to hyper to space that your faction controls).
But that's all assuming we get to own them.
If we don't, whatever; I'm just excited! ![]()
