Thread: This concerns engine overload 4

EO4 makes the engine draw 10x the power. So in your case it would draw 13,860.

RO4 generates 1.9x the Reactor power, so in your case 15,700 x1.9 = 29,830 as you said.

If you are currently using 14.5k of that, then 14,500 - 1,386 = 13,114 is your drain without engine.

So add the overloaded engine to that 13,114 + 13,860 = 26,974 total energy use.

As you can see, this total use is less than your overloaded reactor use (26,974 < 29,830 ), so as long as you run RO4 first, you can easily run EO4 also.

Wow...you made it seem so simple! Thanks so much Starscream. I didn't realize the 1.9x referred only to the RO4 command and the 10x only to the EO4. Now it all makes sense. Plus it looks like I will be using RO4 and EO4 very soon

EO4 is the only way to fly, in my opinion. People who overload their weapons for PvP are delusional. Unless you absolutely feel the need to exploit WO3, overloading weapons for PvP is a waste of reactor energy. Even speed over damage experimented weapons will beat the everloving crap out of any defensive arrangement put in front of you, unless you're up against an exploiter.

a good l6 can get the job done. as for the guns, sometimes you need more damage. some peoplel are flying with 3.5k/1.25k shields and 2k front armor. it takes alot of gun to punch through that. if you are flying a 2 guns ship its alot easier, but even a single l8 cant one hit a ship like that.

I know, I fly a single gun boat, and never count on the single shot kill. So let me add, if you do go with less firepower, ALWAYS specifically target the engine.

no no no, target reactor

not only are you alot less likely to piss them off, but take a look at the armor HP on your average l8 engine re and your average l1 or l3 crafted reactor. its alot easier to take the reactor out.

Killing the reactor, their dead in the water. I dont even think they can EP3 you with a dead reactor. By disabeling their engine, and not the reactor they can still do that.

All that said, i have , from time to time in DS, taken a pot shot at an engine to damage it, to intentionally slow them down.

Interesting, for me, the engine would seem tobe the reasonable choice, since the first breach slows them down and kills their maneuverability. Then you pull up for the quick finish.

Well your average MK II reactor has what, 100 armor or so? A typical L8 engine probably has close to 600 to 800 armor. ( i forget)

/agree

My engine has 800armor/hp each. My reactor, under 200. It's a lot easier to knock that out, and then, even if they vrepair, their power systems will still likely be mucked from other overloads. Plus the fact that I have had more than one exit from DS where there was no free repair. Once time, it was even from someone targeting my engines. I had to minor fix, then limp to the jump station at 250 speed, go back into DS, hyper out, and get fixed.

But if they are runing EO4 or EO3 and close to max energy use (and frankly if they aren't, you really don't need to worry much about them either way) any damage to the reactor will do the same, and probably disable weapons and DIs (so no shunt) or Caps etc.

I aslo used to shoot engines, then I realized how quickly some people were able to take out my own reactor, and how useless I felt when they did
