just did that squadron last week...
I had the lvl 8 reward shield (the ~2400/2400 11.xx recharge) and 2 lvl 8 cannons, 1 lvl 6 cannon on my rihkxyrk. Made the first head on pass which depleted the front shields of the gunboat and some of the armor, hit boost and went straight past it, hitting the weapon capacitor to shield shunt on the way. When my booster ran out, I spun around 180, targetted the engine, and it was almost within range so I made pass two, which disabled it. Then I did a dogfight with the escorts, finished them, came back to 550m behind the gunboat and finished it off.

FYI though, directly underneath at any distance you like is a far safer and more efficient spot to shoot this style gunboat. Even with a tight spread like the Rhix,beams can miss from 550m on the narrow rear profile. Think of the bottom as a soft white underbelly. A large white wall for to shoot at in space

What ship are you using, what equipment, etc.? What galaxy?
You should have the L4 booster, L8 weapon, L8 shields, andL6 enginerewards (preferablyall having been RE'd), a fast droid interface, a capacitor with around 1k energy, and a flight computer with Engine, Weapon, and Capacitor Overload 3 chips, as well as Capacitor to Shield Shunt 3 (or 4). A missle launcher is nice but you may not have room for it.
Power up your programs at launch, get in behind the gunboat and target the engine or reactor, come in and at 550m, start blasting. With luck you'll disable it (it can still shoot at you) but you'll be on booster getting out of gun range. If you don't disable it (getting hit with gunfire from the escorts will blow your component targeting for instance) hit IFF scramble so it stops chasing you and booster out of range again. Recover booster energy, etc. (Fight off any escorts that may have targeted you and followed you out to your safe distance.) Make another run and get the thing disabled.
After that, lead the escorts out and destroy or disable them (they will eventually self-destruct if disabled, and you don't need XP at this point anyways, but you don't get any potential loot either).
Head back to the gunboat, and take out gun #2, then stay below and behind it and finish the job.
That's not the only way to do it (I'm sure some of the more veteran pilots have better ways) but that worked for me.

Hi there,
I have a privateer 4444 mission that on the second leg pits me against 3 (or 4?) KSE's and a gunboat.
Ive been picking the KSE's off individually first as they dont agrountil they've been hit, and leaving the gunboat till last.. but its been pummeling me.
Is there any reason why you disable the gun boat first and then do the escorts?
oh and mouse or joystick?
