OK, gotta admit the Crimson Interceptor looks awesome. Also, even though there are no "modified" Privateer ships, I'm betting the ARC-170, the Jedi fighter, and the Greivous fighter are all 3 Privateer ships (balances out fairly well that way). At least I HOPE the ARC 170 is a privateer ship, 'cause I want one :-)
Very cool looking, but it might be the modified versions are just that - different versions with same stats, much like Privateers have multiple styles right now. Although the flavor text on the Heavy 95 does question it. I'm also guessing the Royal Guard Intercepter is gonna be a rare loot-driven schematic, like the Firespray.

If the article is accurate, they will have different stats. For example the "More powerful and more maneuverable TIE Interceptor"...

Z95 with cross-body strakes
This is an enhanced version of the existing Z95 fighter, which features cross-body strakes that allow for the addition of larger components (hence this ship's nickname, the "Heavy 95"). The ship has also been engineered to more efficiently route power, decreasing the ship's overall heat levels.
X-Wing with cross-body strakes
This modified X-Wing features the same sort of improvements as the modified Z95, so it offers better heat distribution and a chassis that's better able to accommodate more-massive add-ons.

x wing with more mass......mmmmmm juicy! Heavy X > Krayt, I think....better handling and enough mass to hopefully strap up all your hardpoints with nasty firepower and pop an ordnance in, too, and still have room for your RE reward shields. Everything you could possibly want for solo PvE

Hopefully these are dfficult to earn (more than a mindless RE grind like the KSE, but they need to be SW crafted in the end) Advanced models can't be given out like candy, or they just become replacements for the originals. Can we say please tie these to post master missions?
I could see making 1 each a general cert and craft, just to get them ingame (TIE, HeavyZ95, and the mining ship- if thats how the factionalizing breaks out), but the others need to be earned. I'd really like to know that the guy in the Red Interceptor had to do some work to get it, and isn't just a yahoo with a spare million or two.
Postscript- please lord, don't let them cheese the SWs no matter how they hand out these new ships.

At first I really wasn't a fan of the "modified" versions of ships, but now that I've thought about it more, it's actually a good thing. The newbie ships (Z-95 and TIE Fighter) are now viable options for higher level pilots, and the TIE Advanced and X-Wing (the two iconic ships for each faction) both get an upgrade so masters are more likely to use them then before, since they are both great fighters but not upto par with higher level ships that are gained further through advancement.
So, Imperial ships:
-Modified TIE Fighter
-Modified TIE Advanced
-Royal Guard TIE Interceptor
Rebel ships:
-Modified Z-95
-Modified X-Wing
-?
Privateer ships:
-?
-?
-?
Not sure where the Jedi Starfighter, the ARC-170 and the Belbullab-22 fit in with this though. And we already know we're getting an MP ship (more then likely the mining vessel, unless there's 2 MP ships).

I cant believe they are giving us the same old ships..what a drag. The least they could do is make them master pilot quest based schematics...and I mean damn hard quests too. then allow Shipwrights to build them up. My suspicion is that they will be easy to get...after all SOE wants to sell copies of the game, and was there ever any doubt that the CU waited so long because they wanna market it with Episode 3?

I'm betting the ARC-170 will be MP like the Y-Wing LongProbe. I hope the ARC-170 will be cross profession, as I want to finish up Smugglers Alliance, do CorSec than go Rebel. The X and B Wing's are my favReb shipsand the ARC-170 has become my new facorite in the 3rd position, although I still want the Ghtroc 720 stock light freighter.

The TIE Fighter is not the Imperial newbie ship, the TIE Light Duty is, the fighter is the tier 1 ship... but at present it *might* have twice the mass of the LD so a mass upgrade would be nice (unless you consider the TIE/IN to be the upgrade).

Well hopefully with the addition of the Royal Guard Interceptor that we will in the coming months be able to get Royal Guard uniforms. Some dungeon or very hard missions (but not as hard as DWB as thir should be more Royal guards them Mandos out there). A few missions that give the different parts out, gloves/boots, then robe and helmet, with maybe even their weapon(though it would never be held right in the game as it is now). But here's to hoping
