We all see the current situation on this issue and so we know how this worked out when some time has passed
As for capital ships ...... well if the requirements on flying a capital ship are high enough there is no need for making it hard to obtain too . Well something should be done to fly it anyhow but no campable loot should be involved .
The basic operation requirements should be around a full group with 3 master pilots on top to maneuver this ship , 2 master Sw's for repairs and 3 others with around 4 4 4 4 to operate the radar , shields and ordenance. All turrets should be manned by another group .... each turret one man . And btw all people abord this ship should have the same space AND groundfaction. I would prefer if capital ships wil be bounded to PA's of a decent size and only the same pa can man it .... that would at least take care that these will stay rare.
And now comes the part that most peolpe wont like ....... if hunted by a full group of fighters the capital ship shouldn't have a chance ... no I win button here. So this full capital ship manned by around 16 and needs an fighter escort .
And last ....... a corvette class ship should be the largest 'capital' ship controllable ....... NO stardestroyers or corellian cruisers. In a space battle zone (which will hopefully introduced) NPC ships of these classes will do great . Well there must be come content for the capital ships somehow and taking part in a space battle zone were large cruisers engage each other will be fun for everyone .
I dont really care of the ships names that might be controlled ....... important is that the system works not this ' i want that ship for this faction' ... 'no i want this' .... 'why is nobody mentioning this ship' nonsense .

I agree with you whole-heartedly. Maybe you could make it so for every jedi that is part of a boarding party, add enough SBDs or Droidekas to make it at least as hard to board as it would have been for a regular boarding party before the SBDs, Droidekas, etc. ...maybe...I really dunno about this anymore. After the 'holy crap! capital ships!' euphoria wore off, I started to see the sense in the doomsayer's statements, which is why I haven't updated that thread I started shortly after this one appeared about ideas for what ships should be included...

Amen to that, i dont want a 1337 j3d1 with his uber saber owning everyone on the ship, let alone a party of jedi *shudder*, There should be some checks and balances in a situation like that.
My 2cents:
Players want
1) Cap ships & (POB) ships to be revamped.
2) Cap ships & space to have a dramatic effect on the GCW.
3) To be able to not only destroy opposing faction cap ships, but have the ability to capture them as well.
4) Want cap ships to act as player space bases, boardable, respawn/repair, storage, declare overt, ect.
5) To give purpose to smugglers and freelance pilots in the GCW.
6) To be able to attack, control, and capture space stations.
7) To promote guild factional alliances in the GCW for larger scale battles in space.
8) Want space stations to be like mini cities in space.
I have a prepared response to these points, and a system I believe is workable for cap ships & the GCW in space. I don't have the time to type it out right now, but will post the full idea when I get some time to type, so here is just my initial wants.
First off I would like to say great job guys on all your idea's. Some of you have spent a lot of time thinking about this subject and spelling it out in concide detail. Second off I would also say that i couldnt continue to read ofter the 3-4th page.. SoI may be repeating other people. A few of the things thatI did notice that kept coming up are:
1. Number of people suggested to run these things seems to be a bit outragious...10-18? Some suggestions as high as 50
.. Remember group caps are at 8 now. This is assuming that in order to operate any part of the ship you need to be in a group with the owner. Dont know about you guys but its hard to get 2+ people in my VT. Last timeIblew upa vette it had 7 guns....
2. Guilds... Not all high lvl people are in a guild... sowhy should guilds be the only 'enities' to own/borrow a capitol ship?
3. NewPilot Professions... Like this idea, however you might want to build it more around... say the road to Jedi.. (oxymoronI know). What I am specificely refering to is the Padawan-Knight-Guardian-Master Tree. Make it something like Gunship-Vette-Neb-SD(not nessesarly a star destroyer)piloting certification.Makeit takes 50,000,000 prestige points and say 50,000 Faction points to move up a box. Neutral Pilots shouldnt even have a chanceat a Cap ship unless they are ground-effiliated. I seem to recall the name of the original game as 'Star Wars: An Empire Divided'....
3. Caps on Caps (lol). This one is one thatI totaly agree with! 1 Cap ship per person!
4. Boarding. Um where are we goin to get the people to board/defendyour Capitol ships? I do like the fighter launching idea though. You should be able to carry up to a max of 4 fighters in your bays.
5. Shipwrights... whoa feel the heat now lol. Seriously they need a hand in this! Make it so you can only install a Elite Part in your Cap ship. No RE's! Nothing that doesnt whiegh under 250k!
