1. Chassis decay can be totally avoided. Jump to Deep Space after your ship is destroyed and there is no decay. (vrepair of vrepairother from a rebel pilot helps most of the time.)
2. Chassis decay (at least the absolute amount) is diminishing over time as the decay is 10%.
3. You do not loose the chassis, it is never entirelly destroyed and condition won't drop below 10. This is not that exciting considering you want shields and armor to protect your ship, not chassis hitpoints.

I will not exploit Deep Space repair. That's a good friggin' way to get it nerfed...

Until I seea redname come into the Pilot forum and say flat out, that taking PvE damage from somewhere else into Deep Space for a kamikaze repair is not an exploit, I won't do it.
It is, to my very old eyes in this game, a deliberate abuse of a mechanic designed to promote the use of Deep Space as a PvP battlefield to bypass the intentions of the rules for death elsewhere.

I respect all your opinions, and what follows is just another opinion, mine.
You are right that the chassis might adsorb some hits if the hp is not that low, my argument was whether it has a significant practical importance.
1.) In PVE I can think of only one mission that puts you in actual danger, maybe two, both in Kashyyyk space. Soloing an ISD with full fighter screen for example is not a real threat, especially not for a rebel pilot who might decide to quit anytime. That said in PVE your armor will rarely be hit and your chassis very very rarely.
2.) In PVP -as you stated correctly- you have to be very lucky to be able to endure a single hit more with a good condition chassis due to the high damage a pleyer hit does.
In PVP most go to repair to DS, if not for the chassis then for the equipment that is hard to impossible to replace. (In PVE many decent shipwright equipments are more than sufficient, where this is not that much of the problem.) Equipment (that decays too) is still a higher priority than chassis with pre-nerf engines around and the declining quality of drops, while you can always get a new Belbullab chassis (but not an ETA-Actis, Heavy X Wing, ARC, etc., I know).
3. DS repairs are not exploit, it works as intended. This is not "overpowered": in PVP you pay the price by a significantly higher repair time that means your force has to do without you in half of the PVP time. In PVE you generally do not need to repair anyway if not for the level 4 overcharge/overdrive programs you use.
If you consider being able to repair in a sector fully "unnatural" (you are right), then how would you describe waking up in a repairable ship at a space station after being vaporized?
