Thread: First tier 3 SS mission... GIMME a GODDAM break!

I'm a first-time pilot and joined SS after reading it was the hardest. I'm at 3-3-2-2 ATM.

I failed one mission (the one the OP got pissed at). Did it the 2nd time and high tailed out of dodge when those nasty deathwatch ships cruised in. It worked and the rest of the mission was a piece of cake.

Now, up until this point I did EVERYTHING based on my skill at the joystick and my equipment. Having read this forums and realized the power of droid commands the game got a SH*T-LOAD easier. I'm at the 2nd part of 3-3-2-2 and I'm blowing those pesty A-wings up in under 20sec a pop (usually 15sec on average). If you're having trouble blowing em up DISABLE them instead. Itis usually faster to disable a ship then to actually blow it up and it alsostops em from spawning so damn fast.

I really implore those in SS to do their homework on droid commands. Remember, you can use droid commands from other factions by buying programmed chips and u/l them to your flight computer. Weapons Overload III is bugged and uses LESS energy then it should. With a reactor overload (using II atm) I can spam my shots w/o dipping my power in the least. I can also use "capacitor to shield stunt" to regen my shields.

Right now I'm mowing through tier 4s with NO problems. The tier 3 are blowing up in under 10 secs. I mean really guys, USE DROID COMMANDS. It is AMAZING the difference they make. I doubled my offensive and defensive ability for under 30k in chips.

Also, make sure you have the BEST equipment in your ships. Yeah it takes time to search EVERY category in the galactic vendor search but you'll thank yourself later. I CRAMMED the best equipment in my ship topping out around 48k mass (2k to spare). Some of the best stuff is loot drops. The crafted stuff is usually too high in mass to really max out your ship's potential. The crafted weapons are also sub-par. The right looted weapons, shields, capacitors, ect have higher values and lower mass... Just got to look for em.

Anyhow, being a first time pilot and being in SS I'm finding the profession challenging but doable. Just remember:

1. Use top of the line equipment

2. Use Weapon Overload III, as well as Reactor Overload (use II until you get V4 flight computer), Weapon Capacitor Overload (use II until you get V4 flight computer), and Capacitor to Shield Stunt (use II until you get V4 flight computer). Engine Overload is also good but I dont *have* to use it.... Just makes getting to where I need to go faster.

3. With your engine, I have a level 4 engine that is 60 - 65 in all values but speed where it is 74. It is a 3k mass engine. This is vital. Having a good engine means you can out turn and match speed of your opponent. A shield with a high regen rate is also vital. Mine is 10 with 1300 front and back.

4. Map match speed of target to an easy key. Spam it! Once you get behind the ship they belong to you! hehehe

5. DROID COMMANDS

6. Make liberal use of disable ship. It really makes things sooooo much easier.

7. Last but not least, know when to run. Sometimes you just need to survive to win a mission. Many escort missions can be won w/o killing every ship... When I first did my tier 3 SS mission I only killed 50% of the A-wings and my cargo ship still made it out safely with over 90% shields.

I find it scary how overpowered WO commands are, they almost increase youre damage 5x.

But the same can be said for CtSS and CO i guess, droid commands really do make space MUCH easier.

I have said it before, and I will say it again... Storm Squadron pilots are among the most respected pilots ever. I always take the time to congratulate them.

I forgot to mention my idea, i think it would be good if one of the 3 factioned squadrons was harder than the other 2. Or even make a 4th set, the harder set would be for someone who had become and ace of that faction already so no people would be caught out like SS. Privateer and rebel would need some harder missions for this.

EXACTLY!

With weapons overload III and my 250k top-of-the-line looted weapon I mow through tier 4s. I'm pretty sure I could take on a few tier 5s at this point.

In your tier 3 missions there are atleast two times where you're called to defend fellow squad member from a rebel onslaught. In this onslaught there is a few a-wings (tier 3), a bunch of x-wings (tier 3 and 4)and some big ship.

First time I had to defend against the rebs this big ship damn near killed me and it tooked a lot to blow it up... I was so focused i never caught the name... The second time using droid commands I blew it up so goddamn fast I couldnt even read its name LoL

Seriously guys!!!! Droid commands. DO IT

I think I'm the only one in this game who just has problems hitting those stupid little buggers. 4 time ace, 3 of them completely solo, so I definately know what I'm doing. I just find a-wings to be too slippery for me.

I guess I need to devote some of my limited weekend time to running through mission 2, so I can give mission 3 a try. Maybe I'm just letting the negativity from my last try of Storm Squadron get to me, but I'm honestly not sure if I am that good against a-wings. How sad is that? I can solo a Vette, but I may not be able to shoot down 3 (or was it 4?) a-wings fast enough.

Maybe you aren't flying in a style that suits you. For me, I've found two tricks to A-Wings and other fast ships:

- Fly a heavy ship and joust - except I never have the patience for it. Works nicely because they fly in a straight line towards you.

- Light and fast, with guns that have a nice, low delay on them.

I joust as much as I can. Sometimes, I skip the flying bit all together, and just turn a lot. They'll come back, right? Jousting has become a good 75% of all flying I do at this point. I'm just worried about how long that will take.

Right now I'm 3344 Black Epsilon, and while it definately does not sound the same as storm squadron, I have gotten all the way up to 3344 with only the heavy variation of the TIE fighter. I all crafted components, and it seems like I can cut turns faster than A-Wings even at full speeds. Granted, I lack some firepower with only 1 gun, but being able to sit on the tail of an A-Wing and blast away with WO3 definately makes up for it

I've aced smuggler alliance before with the character, and rebel crimson phoenix with my alt, and never have I flown a ship like the TIE. Most impressed with it. They're a hell of a ship, if you build them right.

i must have bugged my gun, firing as i lost connection. I'd report the bug, but my guess is i wont hear from a csr for days, and if i did, they would probably tell me to wait for the next server reset anyway.

Redeeding your ship will probably fix this.

solo'ed all t3 missions for SS.

THE biggest tip I could give you.. DISABLE.. DISABLE...DISABLE.... that the key to it all. My TIE/IN did just fine in this mission as long as you reember to disable only.

1. Disable all ships. Its quicker and easier.

2. Frag loot on this.l.. again.. disable.

3. Don't worry about your transport..

a. That means that you draw your enemies into it.. they attack it giving you a slight break. You then just follow them and DISABLE them one by one.

4. The last mission? Again DISAABLE the Pirates then escort.. when the reb's show DISABLE.

I can not stress enough .. as you gathered.. DISABLE all craft. FRAG loot. This is one of your hardest missions you will have to do in the SS. heh.. 6 more like it... but.. its a warm up for things to come. I really wish I could be on your server to help you out with this one. It took me 9 times to solo it until I pulled my helmet out of my.. so any ways.. disable all things. Ask for fellow help... And be calm about the entire mission. You need to do this.. becuase there are many more like this one comming.

Thanks for all the tips.

The redeed trick didnt work,i tried it this morning.Different weapons dont make a difference either, reseting weapon groups and key binding are no help either. I dont have a spare ship to try another chassis. the good news is myother characters flight systems still work, so my guess is its a server side bug.

thanks for the program chip tips, bought a few today.. one day ill try em out
