These 2 GBs don't follow. They are stuck , due to a bug, at the point where they are supposed to despawn. They will only despawn if the vette is with them. This is why it is UBER RUDE!! to leave them alive when you destroy the Vette.

And lastly, what's all this talk about strafing? Last I heard strafing involves THE GROUND. haha

It applies to air to air combat as well.

Strafing is an air to ground term. However, due to the lack of a term for the same maneuver in air to air it is used for that too.

Sure there's a term for engaging air-to-air. Dogfight!

They are bugged ships either one or two of them are the remaining gunboats when someone does a vette run that and doesn't blow them up. They will continue to -7000 -7000 -7000 and spin around each other blocking the next vette respawn till someone destroyies them or the server resets. They turn in a 300m arc so sitting still and attacking them will get you killed in most cases. Also they are on the wall of space so you can hit that wall by accident and get yourself shot up. Plus understand what people are talking about before bragging these are annoying to destroy to veteran pilot because of thier random movements and there can be 2 next to each other.

And every reference I've found to strafing indicates ground only. Please show me some official reference so I may be corrected.

Not these 2 GBs, they hold hold there ground orbiting the spawn out WP. To top it off the next vette will spawn 2 hours after the last GB is dead. 2 hour wait. UBER RUDENESS!!! DAMMMMM

Ok generic use of the term straif. On the ground you fly in fast and hit a point on the ground with as many shots as you can before you have to fly away or slam into the ground, thats bound to hit the target . Same thing when straifing a space born or air born target. What term would you use?

Brilliant, now since you are so f'ing picky, what AIR are we fighting in, we are in space, so I guess we are not dogfighting are we.

The reason strafing is given the definitions it is is because we don't have giant space capitol ships flying around with space fighters attacking them. The term has been adapted through all science fiction to refer to a quick pass across the target while firing at it, the natural adaptation of the term when you move flying vehicular combat into space.

I don't see anything about going fast, I don't see anything about air-to-air. Everything indicates air to ground.

I think this is just a case where people have used a term incorrectly and the incorrect usage as become accepted. hehe.

Hey, hey. No need to get upset! We're all friends here!

Anyway, your answer is the first one that make sense. I see why someone would have 'adapted' the term.

you mean a word being adapted, heaven forbid. I mean half the words I could call you that would be blocked by the bad word filter have legitimate meanings but have been adapted over time to have other meanings...

Stop being such a troll and get on with your life instead of nitpicking the only word that best describes the action in question.

I wasn't trying to incite trouble. I wasn't aware anyone was upset until you came along. Just having a playful argument, that's all. No harm meant.

If I can't get behind a gunboat generally I just joust it. I've found that no matter how good of a dodger you are, as long as you stay in their turret range you're going to take a lot of damage. SOE made sure those turrets don't miss. So the secret is to get in and out of turret range as fast as you can. Strap on a fast engine and get a decent booster.

As soon as you enter the gunboat's turret range, hit the boost. You should have enough time to pummel it with shots and get a missle lock. Make sure you have some sort of chaff if they get a lock on you. You have to go absolutely straight until you pass the gunboat so you can get the maximum amount of landed hits and a missle lock.

Once you pass him it doesn't hurt to roll and possibly corkscrew a little bit, but get the heck out of range as fast as you can. With this method I hardly take any damage from the front, but the back can be tricky. Once you're out of range you can shunt if you need to. About 1500 out I turn around and go for another pass.

I've soloed three Nova Couriers like this without shunting. I know that they're not as beefy as the gunboats but that's only two less turrets than what you're up against now.

And lastly, what's all this talk about strafing? Last I heard strafing involves THE GROUND. haha

I took your picking on someones word choice for what is by far the best term to use as trying to troll... especially after using the term Joust in your very post to explain how you were fighting, considering it's definition of "A combat between two mounted knights or men-at-arms using lances; a tilting match."... so sorry if I took you as a troll and felt like stepping on a troll today. But really, when you nitpick anothers word choice, looking to cause trouble is usually the primary reason.
