My $0.02, I love the Lizzy. It was all I ever flew as Privateer all 3 times I did it. For my flying style, it is the king of PvE for the Privateer. Two guns, plenty of mass, handles quite well, but the hitbox is huge.
Now, keep in mind, I never did PvP with my Privateer, so this is really only speaking from PvE experience.
EDIT: I should qualify this with the fact that I did TRY all the other privateer ships, but this is always what I came back to and stuck with

Freelancer fighters with the exception of the heavy scyk are not very well suited for pvp against the smaller and more agile opposition fighters. So, I stick with the heavy scyk for that. The only other realistic option is to go with a JSF/GSF or Vaksai. But the Vaksai is huge and certainly isn't the best choice either.
Actually its possible to fit a lvl 10 engine along with a lvl 9 RE gun on a Scyk.. Ofcourse that only leaves room for a mk3 shield, but with heavy front and the fact that youre THAT hard to hit its quite allright..
Currently I dont fly my RoTW ships at all... For Rebel I fly AWing, Freelance DuneLiz, Krayt and Ixiyen (Quite effective with the right gear) and finally for Imperial I fly TIE Interceptor (Getting in the Advanced when I get my Boltdriver REd to sub 14k mass) Think it'll go nicely with my 3256 dam 0.31 refire Ion Pulse 
Oh... The hitbox on the Scyk is not comparable with the AWings... its same height when seen from front/back but thats about it... Its atleast a half width wider (?!) and watched from top? hehe check it out yourself
Still the RoTW ships are boring... Only one that comesclose to being balanced would be the RG TIE (Once they fix the hitbox)
By boring I mean that the ships are too good.... I mean... There is just not the same challenge in decking out a Heavy, Adv XW, JSF, Bel22, Vaksai that there is in ships like the Advanced, Awing, Interceptor, Dunelizard, Ixiyen
On starsider Ive flown my RG TIE and my Heavy TIE once and I havent even done the JSF mission yet.. Well if everyone and their momkeeps flying RoTW ships I might consider upgrading to a heavy or Bel22 once I get my lvl 10 engine finished
