Played both FS and FS2. But JTL does not compare to it. Dogfights in FS2 and overall ship manueverability was a hell of alot better.

Anyways yeahI wasI heavey into FS2 compittion. And played just about every other space flight sim out their since its what I prefer. But non in mulitplayer have yet to top FS and FS2. Sadly since Intersuck and the others can't get their stuff straight and make a 3rd one and ACTUALLY advertise the thing and support it. = /

Oh, I am quite the old school ace myself. Played X-wing, Tie Fighter, Wing Commander I - IV, some freespace and freespace 2. But my real obsession was the Descent series(yes I was one of those "joystick not mouse!") players I played Descent 1 and 2 via Kali back in the early days of net gaming, and was pretty tightly involved with Descent 3(check thecredits )

No! no bitterness!

There was only ONE pilot in FS2 that could whoop me, and he hasn't posted yet so...

But yeah, you were good :}

I am posting between doing things in-game so... sry I didn't make a smiley lol

Man I still miss FS2... and JtL only makes it worse, in some ways...

FS2 Name: Sixgun (play off of a gunner on your six)

Note: I earned all medals and full rank. Took "many" replays, but I was able to accomplish it. I used a screenshot of my medals tray as wallpaper for about 4 months.

Favorite aspects of FS2 (in no particular order):

1. Managing loadouts and wingmen.

2. Multiple part missions (landing, re-arming, then going back out after the same target to finish it off)

3. Extremely varied gun and ordinance options.

4. A genuine military "feel" to the game.

5. A genuine sense of urgency and importance in the roll you were playing.

6. The enemy was formidable and daunting.

7. The screen (HUD) in space was incredibly robust and detailed. Not candy coated and bare.

8. An extreme amount of variables that had to be juggled at all times while flying.

9. Dynamic missions that changed the course of the game based on success/failure.

10. It was more fun than a pantload of pudding.

LOL love that last one :}

BTW I did the gauntlet missions over and over and over again until I could do them solo front to back on one spawn.

People say PvE isn't good training, but let me tell you dodging that many fighters and caps and missileboats at once can seriously teach you how not to get hit, no matter who the shooter is. :}

Also where I learned to dodge missiles without CM's... (you usually ran out pretty early in the mission heh)

Bummer we can't do that in JtL (the missiles wrap and come back to hit you anyway).

But yeah, Great Fun in that game.

And such a loyal playerbase... :}

JBX-SkyWalker - out.

**Raise hand**

Freespace/Freespace II player... but never MP... the single player experience was enough to keepme busy... incredible games.

I've been there, done that with all of the precursor Space Sims. I remember vividly my first experiences with Wing Commander on my 286... I can recall Wing Commander II taking 3 hours to uncompress to my harddrive... ah, the good ole' days...

Hehe. Been there.. ..done that. Wing Commander I-VI / Privateer (2 of whichironically starred Mark Hamill). Tachyon (with the unforgetable Bruce "Don't call me Ash" Campbell). Freespace 1 & 2 (best of the breed). Many, many more. Been a starship jockey for as long as I can remember.

P.S. Does Infocom's "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" or "Leather Goddesses of Phobos" count as space games?

P.P.S. Did anyone play Wing Commander Secret Ops (wasn't an official Origin expansion release, but was very well put together.) I had a lot of fun with that one too.

Holy crap, someone mentioned Kali... going to have to post in here then.

I played Descent I, II, III, FreeSpace I, II, Tachyon... anytime I went online in these games I was "Mirage", and I think I did pretty good--especially back in the days when I was struggling with my 14.4k modem in Descent II, lol...

I did have a FS II squad, and we did pretty well-when we weren't crashing, rebooting, disconnecting, or anything else, lol... our team of 4 usually became a team of 2 by the end of the match. We held a good little group of nodes for a bit tho, maybe 5 or 6 I can't recall. I have some fond memories of kicking 4 guys' butts with only 1 partner, so I suppose it's all good.
