Thread: Mining Etiquette?
That's why I use a B-22 as my dedicated mining vessel.

Imperial ship get the shaft in the mining department. I sorely miss my X-wing. I could equip two weapons and a mining lazer. It was my all-purpouse ship and the imperial ships are just too slow to turn.

Had this happen to me the other night as well I politely asked him to please chase his own cunks and for the most part he didn't really interfear (SP?). I've only had this happen once asI'm a heavy space miner and it really hasn't seemed to catch on in my server (I suspect that will change with people needing VRKs) what I find really annoying is the people who don't kill the Bandits they spawn. I know in my Kimo with 2 Mark IIIs and WO3and a tractor beam I can take on tier 4bandits and mop them up pretty fast so if you are mining with a 3-4 gun ship and 1 of those guns is a heavy damage dealer then please don't leave your mess for others to clean up.I find other people who would do this rude and would consider /duel them if they did it contently at an asteroid I was mining.
I pay a couple friends of mine to fly around out there with me and take out any bandits that pop in. I don't want to waste my time fighting them in a Y-8, and I won't leave them for other miners to deal with.

We did that. As I said, we were told that if we complained about him again, we'd be reporteed for harassment, and to go find another asteroid. And that we and our guild were banned from their city.
The demand for asteroid resources has certainly shot up, POB parts, VRK's... And it brings the same kind of people you find on the ground..
My partner and I mine in Y8's. I can fill a starfighter's hold in 2-3 mins, but the launch / load time is too long on my mid-grade system. It takes patience and practice to be effective in the (still buggy) Y8, but it can be done.
That said, I follow the same etiquitte mentioned above. Stick to the large chunks you break off. To get a good 'grab', I have to come up close and match speed.. 80-120m. That takes time.. but I get them all, often as soon as I pop it. I'm in a huge ship, following a big rock closely, it's obvious. So when someone flys by and pops it, it seriously chaps my hide.
Most miners are curtious on Sunrunner, staying to their own clusters. What I've seen recently though is a lot of AFK miners. Someone posted a macro set and it's been circulating. Once you set the macro loose on an asteroid (in a fighter) it can totally fill a hold and even land you. But with no one there, there's no interaction. The tipoff is someone spouting in spatial, (tractor beam on/off). Or simply watch them fly for a minute. If they aren't responding, and flying predictable patterns, it becomes obvious. Pop a large chunk into pieces and watch them...
What to do? We've only had one ATK griefer, followed my partner from one asteroid to the next. Filed a harrassment ticket. No reply. Not much else to do but hyper to another rock, preferrably in another system. Our only other recourse was to ban him from our shop. It's not much, but it's all we have. We'reheavy miners, good prices etc.. once they're banned, they're banned for good.
*sighs & shrugs*
Hi all!
As a space miner by trade (on Shadowfire) I thought I would share some of my thoughts here.
First off, I do use a macro system to mine. It does NOT allow me to AFK mine however, and if it did, I would not. Personally, I don't see the point in AFKing a game. I pay for it to enjoy it, and part of that is working for my money.
Not all of us macro miners are as bad as the couple of jerks you guys have run into. I usually have a long shopping list from my distributors, and I try to go to whichever asteroid has no one at it and mine there. It just makes good sense, as some of you have pointed out. Not competing over the chunks means we BOTH get filled up faster.
If I've ever run across any of you while mining, I apologize if I occasionally grabbed your resources. I tryvery hard not to, even disabling my macro if I can't get it to play nice. I am always ATK when I mine, so if y'all have a problem with Oshax, send me a tell and I'll see what I can do for you. I even go so far as to share parts of my macro with other miners to help ease their burden.
