Odd. There were 6 of us at a petrochemical asteroid last night and we all kinda mined our own. Guess it all boils down to what kind of people you have on your server.

Imperial ship get the shaft in the mining department. I sorely miss my X-wing. I could equip two weapons and a mining lazer. It was my all-purpouse ship and the imperial ships are just too slow to turn.

That's why I use a B-22 as my dedicated mining vessel. I hate the cockpit design, so I won't use it as a PvE/PvP ship, but as a miner it's top-notch—fits both my Mk3 Mining Laser and my Tractor Beam and gives me the speed and maneuverability to handle even T5 bandits with only minimal difficulty. I and my partner had this same problem last night on Bloodfin, with a guy named Kraiven BlackMarsh of SOTR. And his was deliberate. He would not shoot the asteroid, he waited until I broke off chunks in my Y-8 and then went after them while I was maneuvering. He did the same crap with my partner.

We both reported him, but I don't have any faith anything will be done about it. We even tried to appeal to his guild leader, who basically said too bad, go somewhere else.

Then when he stopped, he just kept unloading barrage after barrage into the asteroid, sending chunks flying everywhere instead of a couple shots to break off a single chunk. And since I refuse to ever touch an asteroid someone else broke off, there we were sitting while he drained the asteroid over and over...

Try contacting SOTR over that. I've never dealt with them up close and personal, but I've chatted with their crafters and used to shop with them a lot, they seem to be an upstanding group. Mention what monkey boy was doing to thier leader.

We did that. As I said, we were told that if we complained about him again, we'd be reporteed for harassment, and to go find another asteroid. And that we and our guild were banned from their city.

Had this happen to me the other night as well I politely asked him to please chase his own cunks and for the most part he didn't really interfear (SP?). I've only had this happen once asI'm a heavy space miner and it really hasn't seemed to catch on in my server (I suspect that will change with people needing VRKs) what I find really annoying is the people who don't kill the Bandits they spawn. I know in my Kimo with 2 Mark IIIs and WO3and a tractor beam I can take on tier 4bandits and mop them up pretty fast so if you are mining with a 3-4 gun ship and 1 of those guns is a heavy damage dealer then please don't leave your mess for others to clean up.I find other people who would do this rude and would consider /duel them if they did it contently at an asteroid I was mining.

I pay a couple friends of mine to fly around out there with me and take out any bandits that pop in. I don't want to waste my time fighting them in a Y-8, and I won't leave them for other miners to deal with.

3-4 min for a full hold macroing?

I can fill the hold in ~2 mins in my mining ship (JSF FTW) using tractor and highspeed boosts back to break another chunk off... In the case of the above harasser Id simply call a BS3 on a bandit and hope he hits one of them

Ah, I missed that. That's disappointing to hear, they always seemed like a nice group.

even tho i never had this mining what i do with spawns should work also with bandits

where i always carry a full load missles

missle a bandit the imediatly hit iff bandits will attack closest target ie your poacher buddy

i use to do similar on ground pre-cu when moneia was always imp controlled

id call my probot wait in starport as far away from door as possible target stormy out side

tell droid to attack wait two to 3 seconds then store

stormys get confused and start attack corsec i then run out and call speeder and haul ass to rebel hide out)

The demand for asteroid resources has certainly shot up, POB parts, VRK's... And it brings the same kind of people you find on the ground..

My partner and I mine in Y8's. I can fill a starfighter's hold in 2-3 mins, but the launch / load time is too long on my mid-grade system. It takes patience and practice to be effective in the (still buggy) Y8, but it can be done.

That said, I follow the same etiquitte mentioned above. Stick to the large chunks you break off. To get a good 'grab', I have to come up close and match speed.. 80-120m. That takes time.. but I get them all, often as soon as I pop it. I'm in a huge ship, following a big rock closely, it's obvious. So when someone flys by and pops it, it seriously chaps my hide.

Most miners are curtious on Sunrunner, staying to their own clusters. What I've seen recently though is a lot of AFK miners. Someone posted a macro set and it's been circulating. Once you set the macro loose on an asteroid (in a fighter) it can totally fill a hold and even land you. But with no one there, there's no interaction. The tipoff is someone spouting in spatial, (tractor beam on/off). Or simply watch them fly for a minute. If they aren't responding, and flying predictable patterns, it becomes obvious. Pop a large chunk into pieces and watch them...

What to do? We've only had one ATK griefer, followed my partner from one asteroid to the next. Filed a harrassment ticket. No reply. Not much else to do but hyper to another rock, preferrably in another system. Our only other recourse was to ban him from our shop. It's not much, but it's all we have. We'reheavy miners, good prices etc.. once they're banned, they're banned for good.

Hi all!

As a space miner by trade (on Shadowfire) I thought I would share some of my thoughts here.

First off, I do use a macro system to mine. It does NOT allow me to AFK mine however, and if it did, I would not. Personally, I don't see the point in AFKing a game. I pay for it to enjoy it, and part of that is working for my money.

Not all of us macro miners are as bad as the couple of jerks you guys have run into. I usually have a long shopping list from my distributors, and I try to go to whichever asteroid has no one at it and mine there. It just makes good sense, as some of you have pointed out. Not competing over the chunks means we BOTH get filled up faster.

If I've ever run across any of you while mining, I apologize if I occasionally grabbed your resources. I tryvery hard not to, even disabling my macro if I can't get it to play nice. I am always ATK when I mine, so if y'all have a problem with Oshax, send me a tell and I'll see what I can do for you. I even go so far as to share parts of my macro with other miners to help ease their burden.

As far as there being a macro system to take off, mine, and land... well, I'm sorry to say I probably contributed to that. My macros will do all of that, getting fouled up only when I am attacked by bandits, which I then have to dispatch. I have not posted any of the code, but I did something almost as bad. I posted the sequence of events, which may have been enough to lead others to it. When I realized what could be done with that information, I edited and removed the post, but I think I was too late. Unfortunately, some of those who have reverse engineered my system use it quite unscrupulously, and I'm sorry about that. I always try to be courteous to those I see online, and I guess I didn't think about the fact that others may not be.

My only advice for you if you come up against one of these people, is to go to another asteroid of the same resource. One key point of the macros most space miners are employing is that they always go to the nearest asteroid of that resource type. Going to one of the others would get them away from you. Speaking for myself, just send me a tell, and we'll talk, but others may not be nearly as polite, and you may not be able to get rid of them. I know that's not fair, but I can only try to be courteous myself, I can't make others be that way.Another recourse is to run the aforementioned macros yourself. It won't stop them, but it will at least give you parity. A final way would be to mine with a buddy. One of you break chunks off non-stop, while the other collects, and then switch. It would take longer, I grant you, but it would work if you had to have that resource, and you couldn't get the campers to go away.

Maybe SOE just needs to put more asteroids in the game. As of now, I think there are only 2 carbonaceous asteroids in a given galaxy, and it's one of the most sought after resources out there. At least theyincreased the collection rate, and reduced the quantity needed to make most things with publish 24. I think the most useful solution would be if SOE could make it so that the chunks person A broke off didn't show up on person B's radar, and vice versa. I don't know if that would even be possible, but it would be nice.

Anyways, the bottom line is this: neither I, nor my associates know of any way to get a mining macro to ignore the bandits. Also, there is (as far as I know) absolutely no way to unload your ship AFK. This necessitates a players presence. I can just about guarantee that, if someone is macroing your asteroid, they are present, even if they are not controlling their ship at all times. If they are not responding to you, then they are just being pr1cks.

BTW, the tip about the tractor beam won't work. A well crafted macro turns it on at the beginning, and off when you head in, instead of flicking it on and off all the time. The best bet is your second idea. Watch them fly, and, if it looks too automated, send them a tell. Hopefully, you get a decent person who will respond and work with you.
