Thread: I find Gunboats really hard...

Are you an alliance pilot? (heavy X-Wing.. hello)

IF not do you have a Rhyk(however it is spelled)? (assuming you are freelance)

Can you draw this pirate? (jokeing... some of you will get it)

what I would do for these duties is pack as much forward firepower as posible and make diving rolls through the GB and boost out the other side menwhile targeting either the reactor, engine or a gun.

This things are some of the most chalenging NPCs in space... good luck.

Play the game or don't it is what it is and will never be what it was for better or worse. I intend to play the game as long as it is fun, that does not make me a fan boy of brown noser. I know the game has it's flaws, but it serves no purpose to dwell in the past.

heh... some people didn't read thewhole thread.

I use the blind spots of the gunboat. Before you say you can't... yes you can. don't fly straight at it. It is rolling but so can you use all three axis to sort corkscrewin sycronisation with the underside. It will save you alot of hits. then as you get level with it boost away perpendicular to it it will save you a few again and lessen the time you spend shunting and recharging.

You don't have to kill these gunboats, just keep their attention on you after you kill the bombers. You do have to get their attention though, so you need to make a pass (or two) on them. A high speed as mentioned above is needed, and a lot of defensive maneuvering.

One thing to consider when making your runs (on these gunboats or anything else), if you're finding you have to shunt on the approach of your run, you're taking too much fire and should break off. Recharge and make another run, changing your approach & defensive maneuvering.

I've done this mission in a B-wing, an X-wing, A-wing, Advanced X-wing... Dunelizard and the Vaskai. (I had fighter cover in the B-wing) But it did take practice and a lot of repairs when I was first learning it. (We used this mission as a training run for coordinated assaults.)

Lastly, when the Vette jumps, the GB captains execute "operation spoilsport" and will chase you for another 10-12 minutes. I've had them chase me all across the system. So be ready to jump. An in-system jump is sufficient to loose them. Collect your reward and you're done.

That is so true. Just as a reminder, I am not talking about any vette missions and I dont want to get around the gunboat, I want to know how to destroy it. Not to say you shouldn't (write-wutcha-like).

I am a CorSec freelancer, flying a Vaksai with good crafted components. I ve spent a good while comparing different shipwrights and equipping my ship.

I ll practice the approach from behind and let you know if I could pull it off.

Again, thanks for all input.

Here's a tip. Bring a friend or two. Sometimes it's just not worth toughing something out solo. A smart pilot knows when to bring his cousins along.

I find it quite difficult to take down those gunboats. I soloed the corvette for the vaksai, but a gunboat is still a tough opponent. I do strafing runs on its weapons, boosting away, but end up with no shields too quickly. Any advice?

With only 1 gun, the Vaksai's going to be hurting for firepower. I use an Advanced X-Wing with a Level 8 shield (2555 front/back) and tank those things from the rear. Gun #2 is my usual first target, but on some of the Kessel YE-4s, they tend to maneuver quite a bit when engaged against Rebel NPCs, so I hit the Engine or Reactor first.

The best advice I can give you is don't rush. If you need to pull away and take 20 seconds to recharge your shields, do it. Another thing that helps is to roll hard while boosting away, it confuses the AI and plays hell with its accuracy. And lastly, do not do flyby strafing runs, when you're within a hundred meters or so, pull up and take the parting shots from the rear guns only. You fly by and get tagged in the ass by those front weapons, its going to hurt no matter what you do.

Awrr, I ll give up on this one. It s a Tier 5 Gunboat, that is just too much at the moment. My space bomb just scratched 8% off its shields...

And the new challenge is waiting. CorSec Trainer on Datooine gives me a mission "Battle over Datooine" where two Tier 3 gunboats spawn. Not these are much easier and I can use all the advice you gave me earlier. Still tough, especially as there is a time limit (when the allies get blown up). Why does it have to be two!!!

If there is anyone on Kettemoor willing to help me out, please /tell me. I just would be so proud to do it alone... baw, whatever.

Hehe, yeah. And it was going well until the gunboat showed up...

Now for the two tier 3 gunboats. Not really easy either I have to say...

Oh hell, you're doing gunboats from Tier 5 duties?

/salute

You're only hope there is to joust and run. And I mean RUN. They top out around 809 speed and maneuver like a POB skipper could only dream of.

Strip the missiles and get a bigger capacitor and a more powerful main gun.

Now it s Tier 3 gun boats again... and I need to take them down or my CorSec chief wont let me advance (*I am 4434 with enough xp for 4444, btw). So... I feel like I am getting close, getting the gun boats shields down, but I am still a long shot from actually nicking them. I ll look into getting a new ship. The Vaksai is fast, but maybe I can get more punch with a different ship (rhyk?).

YES, I AM THE GREATEST!

Ehe... Maybe not the greatest, but good enough to finally take out the two tier 4 gunboats (not 3, as I posted before). Upgrading my Weapon Overcharge droid command from II to IV and landing a couple of space bombs made the difference, I believe. I was also lucky to be able to take down the other attack crafts without getting too much attention of the gunboats. That helped my alliesstay alive for long enough, I suppose.

YES! Now I am 4444...

I'm doing this two gb mission now. Did you finish it with your Vaksai? I just got my Vaksai this morning, thinking it would help in this mission.

The mission is the final FL Corsec mission before the Vette/Master missions (4434).

Thanks,
