Ok, so I finally achieved what I've been working for for quite some time now. Lvl 8 engine, gun and lvl 7 shield all fit onto a 66k mass A-wing without sacrificing anything else majorly. In fact, the only thing I had to sacrifce was ordnance. Before now, I was flying with a lvl 7 re'd weapon at 3.1k damage and .320 refire rate along with a mk III proton rack. Now it could be argued that this was a better set up to having no proton rack and a 3.8k damage .390 lvl 8 blaster and thats fine, however the lvl 8 blaster on it's own works -way- better for me since my shots tend to be picky and each shot has to count. .390 refire is only .070 of a second slower than the lvl 7 too so isn't too noticeable. Anyway, what proceeds is a rundown of my latst A-wing setup. The 'BlackJack Mk XII'. I named my A-wing's variant the 'BlackJack' series because I think it sounds quirky and this version is indeed my twelfth. It has ranged from version 1 which was quite honestly awful, to version 4 which was pretty average compared with everyone elses, then up to the Mk 8. Afterthis, well...I started experimenting a little more and in fact over the last month the last few versions have seen service and been upgraded. I knew I was onto somthing when BlackJack Mk X started killing ships better than it. Anyay, without further ado...


REACTOR: LVL 1 RE'D

Mass: 1301

Reactor Generation Rate: 12162.9


Now this was a lucky find on a venor so I didn't have to loot it, however these reactors are still obtainable around the galaxy.


ENGINE: LVL 8 RE'D (I used the QID for speed)

Reactor Energy Drain: 1496.4

Mass:21073.4

Pitch Rate: 75.6

Yaw Rate:77.2

Roll Rate 73.6

Speed: 105.6


Now all is cool here. For those who knew my old engine, it was a bit slower and a bit heavier also. Along with this, the roll and pitch were superior [79 pitch and 76 roll] however, all round this engine matches it and I've found due to the superior speed, along with EO4 I can do a lot more with this engine. I do however feel I might have held out longer for a better roll rate.


Armour: Crafted Mk I front and back

Armour: 232.0

Mass: 949.9


Now I have managed to keep this on however it really isn't all that much protection wise. However, every little helps and believe it or not, I had the mass to spare .


Shield: LVL 7 (A Re'd ProtectoNet Shield)

Energy Drain: 2148.2

Mass:14257.3

Front/Back shield Hitpoints: 1872.2

Shield Recharge Rate: 13.07


Now this is a cool shield. It is in noway a lvl 8 reward shield, but it is close to bing one when using front adjust moderate (or even heavy as I sometimes do now). Now this droid command is risky and not a good idea in large engagements because it opens your rear shield right up but one vs one against someone who you're sure isn't using missiles, well then it is a good command to use I think. It has saved my ship before.


Capacitor: Lvl 2 Re'd

Energy Drain: 1023.0

Mass: 1566.4

Capacitor Energy: 832.4

Recharge Rate: 41.1


Droid Interface: (pre-nerf)

Mass: 487

Droid command speed: 14.9


Now ok. This is the -only- pre-nerf piece of kit I have on this ship and I have no qualms about using it. I'm working with 66k mass here! Aso, they're much more common than say a pre-nerf lvl 6 engine and infact I didn't loot this way back, I bought it. In fact..I have a spare.


Booster: lvl 2 Re'd.


Energy Drain: 481.7

Mass:1343.2

Booster Energy: 1530.1

Recharge Rate: 38.4

Consumption Rate: 148.1

Acceleration: 30.5

Top Speed: 23.7


Now, here is one component I know I can upgrade furtherly and probably reduce mass on still. Bare in midn that even though I feel I have reached new heights (from a personal point of view) with the ship it will always be a 'work in progress' and so it hasn't been perfected as of yet. The booster i the next thing I'll be working on.

Energy Drain: 2023.6

Mass: 22789.1

Damage: 2507-3876

Vs Shields: 0.677

Vs Armour: 0.688

Energy/shot:13.4

Refire Rate: 0.390


Chaff: well..a chaff launcher is a chaff launcher

Mass: 869.1


Anyway, as you can see. With that engine I am pushing 1.3 (max) all around and now I have a gun which will strip a lvl 8 shield and probably do some more damage ontop of that in a single hit. I acceptthat the ship will never be as good as a 'maxed out JSF' etc, but I feel it is at least a lot more competitive now and following my mantra of 'setting out to not get hit at all' keeps this ship in the game from a PVP point of view.

It wouldn't matter to me, he'd just kill me faster if we were fighting each other. I've been having some spectacular lag lately ... running a Tier 3 mission with 500 ping is just no fun.

Very nice, and very similar to mine. The main difference is that I'm using a REd Ionic Pulse instead of the Tri-Cannon, with either an MK3 proton or MK2 IR. I believe I'm also using mostly low-level crafted stuff for capacitor, booster, etc, rather than low level RE. Very similar all-around though, and nice job. The A-Wing is probably the most fun of the Rebel ships to outfit since it's such a small package. It's amazing what you can fit on it if you really try, though.


Also, if you ever need to free up a little more wiggle room in the future, you can beat that looted reactor with a good MK1 fusion. Same power output and a couple hundred less mass.

Nice rig.

The MK II booster, you could try having your SW use an overdriver for a higher TS, and then put all or most of his/her points into consumption rate. The result is usually a 31 TS booster with a 10 to 11 second burn time. Bad side is, recharge rate is slow.

hehe. That was BlackJack MkXI mate. I'm pondering on going back to that setup for the ordnance punch, however the point of this one was to prove I could fit a lvl 8 gun in with a lvl 8 engine and lvl 7 shield. I'm really sitting on the fence though on the weapon front. Faster refire slightly less power lvl 7 gun is good, but I have some opponents where I need all the power I can get out of a blaster. Hmm. I guess I'll see .


As for the booster, yeh it soon went to a mk I with 33 speed shortly ater I posted this Duc. I also got some better front armour now. I think eventually a BlackJack Mk XIII might be possible

I've made MK2 boosters with my shipwright with pretty decent top speed and burn rates around 13-14 seconds. Overdriver experimented to speed, and the base component experimented first on consumption rate, with the rest into total energy.

Me too. You'd outrun me if you use EO4 and your lower AoA would give me a hell of a time getting me out of the way of your guns. However, my smaller profile and higher r,p,y acceleration would make you work hard. Do you use missiles?
