Well, yeah of course you can solo a gunboat in a POB ship but it still isn't nearly as efficient as a Krayt/Oppressor/X-Wing. Plus you don't have two people telling you what to do, "flip over more, you're doing it wrong!"

anything you can do in a fully crewed POB, I can do better in my JSF.

Exactly. Forget Kessel, I can solo deepspace (no really, I actually cleared the entire place out one time) in my fighter. There is absolutley no reason to use a POB ship in combat. Sure, you can find ways to be decent at it ifyou want to do it for fun, but it has absolutely no advantage.

There are only 3 things POB ships are good for:

1. Storage

2. A replacement for shuttle flights

3. Impressing noobs

The POB ships are seriously the coolest thing I've ever seen in a Space flight sim, the coolest thing in this particualr game, and possibly of any game I've ever played. Its a real technical accomplisment. But they are completely useless. The Devs have done 90% of the work they need to do on POB ships but only have 10% of the functionality. That last 10% of work they need to do has the other 90% of the functionality, and its really dissapointing that they haven't done it. I really feel they are selling themselves short. They could sell this entire game with the subscription fee to space sim gamers based on POB ships alone... if they were effective

And that is the biggest reason why most people are disappointed with the POB ships. They require to much input and maintenance and the reward/usefulness is just not worth it. The advent of POB only shields, weapons, etc has helped but the stats on some of those items not much better than lvl 8 or 10 loot of the starfighter components. I would really like to encourage the DEVs to consider beefing up the stats for those POB items. Otherwise, its like you said, yeah you would have been more effective in your own individual ships.

However, to be fair, you do need to have a fighter escort with you. I can get by with a crew of 3 or 4 in my nova then get1 or 2 other pilots to fly in fighter. That way if you attack a gunboat you are not getting all of the hate.

Well, as to the person with the 3k shields and armor, I have been looking for that kind of stuff forever. Right now I have 2.4- if I had 1k protection I dont think anything would ever get through my shields.

And as to the missiles- well, since I was strafing at over 1200 I never managed to attain a lock unless I slowed down, which usually meant getting a few bits of armor chewed off. I ordered my gunners to start firing at 1 kilometer since we were going so fast, but we still did very little damage. I mean, I took out my Krayt with a man in the turret, trained all four guns forward and did these runs with less shielding and armor and we were much beter, simple because we had four guns instead of two. Hopefully when I try the new method of shadowing him we will do better with that.

And justa note, the YT1300 has only two missile slots, not three.

I am going tot ake up the crew again and try a new method. Will post later about it.

Its not always about taking the biggest prize, its about pulling off a challange. Some things I am sure just aren't possible (if anyone finds out how to solo the ISD with a YT post a guide please ) but learning how to hunt in a POB ship is still a lot of fun.

In my guild I am trying to organize some POB only space duel competitions, no fighters just novas YTs and decimators.

yea the null blaster is an awesome POB only weapon, my favorite. My Decimator has 2, and usually uses Mark 4 Proton Torpedoes, or if I know we are going into heavy targets, 3 Mark 2 Space Bomb Launchers.

I'm jealous Traveler. I'm rebel pilot 3333 and was thinking of dropping all to get the YT-1300. No one in my guild has one so I figured I could be the cool one. Heh...
