Thread: ghrag gunships. anyone know their weakness?

I managed to get quite far on that duty with my A-wing but in the end, I just couldn't put out enough damage in time to kill everything soon enough. As for my Heavy X, well it puts out the damage but it really is a big target for those GBs.
Its funny someone should mention this though because tonight I'm actually hosting a 'mini event' where we'll be taking pre-rotw Alliance fighters to try and complete it. I am thinking of frappsing it etc. It should make for an interesting challenge with a squadron of standard x-wings and Y-wing etc vs this.
As for weaknesses to those gunboats, well I try my best to kee beneath them at all times but with the way they manouver, you have to basically make hit and run passes when there are more than one of them spawned.
Additionally, you may care to notice that the Kashhyk system has ample asteroids to hide behind. One of my favourite tactics is to leads them away from the duty spawn waypoint, into those asteroids and weave around. The asteroids 1. provide 'some' cover and 2.limist the gunboat's manouverability.
I reckon I could do this mission solo if I flew a relic, but I don't want to do that. I'll keep going at it with my x-wing I think.
I'd use an A-wing with my frequent wingman, Risian. I bet two A-wings could do it...unfortunately he doesn't have rotw.
Also yes, I agree...aim for the engine first on the gunboats. Additionally, try and score your damage from behind so you have only half as much shielding and armour to kill. Remember all ships (minus the ISD and Vette) have front and back shields/armour which are independant of each other so for example, even if you have a gunboat's shields and armour down to 50% sometimes..you might still not score component damage if you've been attacking from all sides. Concentrate your fire and bringing those things down happens sooner.

standard Y wing + EO4 + lvl 10 RE's as gun's match spd and have em trail the ballsy pilot
Not necessarily the cleanest or quickest way, but it works for me. I always have two engines in my inventory for swapping-out, and in this case I'd toss in my high-speed one to aid in the bombing runs.
The Ghrag gunboats DO have a weakness...unfortunately, there's no Kryptonite in the game ![]()
Seriously, though, I can get one, if lucky and careful, by jousting with my well armed heavy X-Wing and targeting the engine. If you can disable or even damage the engine fast, they are easy to kill. The trick is lasting long enough to do so. Good luck there!

I found one through research, I just haven't met a Catholic Priest willing to be shot out of a torpedo tube for an in situ exorcism...
Id be more for this idea if the gunboats didnt actuly go for you right from the get go. last time i ignored these things they hit me so hard i chiped a tooth in real life. Im gonna petiton holy space bombs, double the cost, but the perfict counter to a gharg gunboat... anyone signing?

A huge tip is you don't need to take any weapons on the vette at all. Sit behind its central engine exhaust, and hit the shields with missiles, then take the engines. When the GB's spawn, ignore them, concentrate on the fighters and let the vette handle the gunboats. You can safely circle the vette, keeping it targeted to monitor its status untill it hypes. We found, if you do take the GB's even more spawn, so it's best to leave them well alone. This mission is more than soloable. I did it for my own Advanced X-Wing and have helped countless pilots gain theirs. It's just a case of knowing what to do.
On the tier5 duty from theKash YT-1300 A Very well equipped Bwing with MK3 concussions and alot of firepower/speed will get you very far against the GBs. Lots of sheild HP plus cap energy and recharge rate and enough speed to outrun them is a must. I've been able to take on 2 of them at once b4 my wingman wandered to close and got hosed so we gave up on the third round. A wingman is best to finish them off if you can take out their guns for them leave everything else intact if there are multiple targets just keep the second or third away from your wingman as he is taking the unarmed ones down. Could be a very cool Fraps video to have a squadron of Bwings hunting them.

My JSF only does 1275, used to do 1184, and I could solo it. Just leave them alone, ignore them to a certain extent, yes they will agro, but boost away and u are just fine. I only have 1700 shields and I can ride 2 of them no problem. It's like a lot of things in this game, mind set. People say Ooooh that's hard, there cant be an easy way of doing it, but if you think about it, and believe in it, you can do it. No one thought POB's could PvP, but ask the 15 people I've killed, they'll tell you that they can
Only if they're called the Holy Space Bombs of Antioch...

Count to three, and then press the launch missile button!
Three is the number you shall count, and the number of the counting shall be three!
Four is one too many, you shall count to three!
Two you shall not count to, unless you then move onto three.
Five is way out!
And the gunboat graphic should be changed to look like a durnie !
