I was having this same exact problem up until last night. I will try and explain what I did to get past this so that hopefully it will help others.

I got the mission from the lady in Nym's and then launched into space from Nym's SP. I was about 11k from the mission so I put the boosters on and got there as fast as I could. Obviously once I got there the Lambda was already gone but there were about 4 or so Imp Tie's in the area so I went to work on them. After each kill I would do a /tar imperial "lambda", this would target the lambda if he was in the area. After killing the 3rd Tie I got the lambda targeted about 2k out so I hit the boosters and got over to him. I quickly disabled him and then 2 escort Ties spawned. I have pretty decent shields/armor for a Y-wing so I was able to inspect and dock under fire. Got the mission complete but still needed to destroy the escorts. By this point I was beat up a bit so I jumped to the closest point to the Lok Station WITHOUT leaving the system. Mission was still good so I let me shields regen back to full and went after the 2 Ties. I took them out and got a mission complete and was finally able to go train.

What it boils down to is kill every Imp in the area of the waypoint until you get the shuttle again and then proceed on with the mission. The Imp Interceptor that is usually in the area is one of the Ties you need to destroy so keep an eye out for him.
