I just wrapped up Tier 3 with Black Epsilon, and I haven't had any problems yet. I expected the last mission to be worse, as much as people complain about that gunboat. I'll get a start on Tier 4 later tonight.
The gunboat can be intimidating when you're suddenly up against it for the first time tho, and if you haven't started looking for better parts for your ship... it can be hard to kill. I know I had more problems with this mission trying to kill it before it hypered out than I did surviving. I could always make it to the end of the mission, but I just had a bear of a time trying to actually KILL the blasted thing. Now of course, I'm half-way thru Tier 4, routinely look for gunboats all over to practice on, and can't believe that it gave me this much trouble when I was trying to do it for *my* mission. 
Oh, and COMPLETELY off topic - thanks to all of you real Master Aces and all here - Tomo and the rest - who have shared your knowledge, tips, ideas, etc on the forums. Just from what I've picked up here plus figuring out some things for myself in game, I'm still proud to say that I've so far solo'd every single mission in my first JtL squadron (Black Epsilon) and I'm up into Tier 4 now. Trying to learn even more things that "I don't know yet" every time I go up.
