I was getting the EXACT same graphical bug last night while I was mining. Looks like the patch screwed up the display area size for CargoHold %.
And yes you can just keep mining until the "Your cargohold is full" message pops up, but if you've got a larger hold or a POB mining ship setup.. it's a bit tedious not knowing how much farther you've got till you are full.

/bump for this extremely annoying bug.
Is there any update on if this is going to be fixed?

Made me a Krayt for mining 
two tractors and one miner at WO4 don't take long at all. Not psiko timing

I mine with the rihkxryk using 3 mk3 mining lasers. I dont even bother with a tractor beam. can fill the cargohold in less than 10 minutes. With 3 lasers I can tear though attackers pritty fast so dont need a defence weapon.
