and as for the trench, i would assume it was a flaw in the turret grid around the vent. you would have to assume that the empire knew that would be a weak spot, and they probobly placed a ridiculus number of anti-fighter turrets around the opening. the 'rebs were exploiting a turret blindspot. i figure that they found a spot along the treench where the turret coverage was thin and some fighters coupld slip through easy enough, and once in the trench the turrets wouldnt have a line of sight. of course that would leave one to wonder why han solo didnt eat it while he was flying above the trench and nailed one of vader's wingmen.

They stopped firing the Turrets because Vader was in the trench.

"The turrets... they've stopped!"

well yes there were a couple in the trench, but you would imagine there would be far far more outside the trench.

you are all forgetting the reason for the trench run, IT LOOKED COOL, very cool I my opinion. Han didnt get ganked by ties, because he waited till most of them were shooting the rebs, and that big dinner plate of a ship , just slipped by them.

"... but they're so small they're evading our turbo lasers."

Vader, "We'll have to destroy them ship to ship. Get the crews to their fighters."

I agree with the theory that the trench provided some measure of cover. Even if it was difficult to track a fighter with those turbos, simple percentages suggest they'd've tagged a few out in the open... throw enough fire downrange and you're going to hit something..

I can't believe no one brought up the fact that they used proton torpedos b/c they go THROUGH the shields (unlike in the game ) If you recall, they used them because the vent was ray-shielded, so blasters wouldn't have worked (woulda been hard to line up too). It takes a proton-shielding to stop the torps.

Proton torpedo and proton missile aren't the same thing. BTW, do we even have proton torpedos in JtL? All I could find are the missiles.

another reason why the rebel fighters went into the trench was that most people would wet their pants flying a starship in an area that small.... if that wasnt true they would have flooded the trench with hundreds of ties, not just three

Nah, they didn't deploy hundreds of ties because I killed one agressor on a duty mission and they had to have some backups for me.
