Don't sell the old Y-WingLongprobe short. I did some mass calculations last night and I figured out that I can squeeze a level 9 shield and two level 9 blasters into it. I plan on riding this thing all the way to ace. I own 5 A-wings and3 X-wings that I may never use now.

The weapons on the longprobehit withmore consistantcy that the X-Wing because there are no convergence issues. The four beams shoot out in this tight little quad that makes it a breeze to hit with both weapons every time. With a high YPR engine it manuvers well enough to whack anything in PvE. Why drive a sports care into combat when what you really need is a tank.

If I do parttake in some PvP I will probably use a A-Wing. If it gets toasted I own plenty more.

i have not yet actually used my x-wing (tonight i will. stupid reward ship cant be redeeded, i need to get rid of another ship now) but in my longprobe with lvl 6-7 stuff, i was taking out tier IV ships pretty easy last night. i am using only 99k of the mass, so i can drop it all into the x-wing and btr compare it.

but having 28 protons is a nice thing

The reward ship doesn't need to be redeeded.. You just delete it from your data pad and if you want another one just use the Deed again.
As far as I could tell you can do that as many times as you wish.

I ran my first tier 4 mission in both the A-wing and the X-wing. I did not even come close to finishing it in the A-wing. I was able to finish it in my X-wing. With tech lvl 7 componets, the A-wing doesn't seem to have any advantages, it's only 56 speed faster than my X-wing, and with only 1 gun, compared to 3 on my X-wing, the X-wing has a large advantage there. Maybe at master, with uber low mass lvl 9 or 10 componets the A-wing might be better, I don't know. It also seems that NPC's almost never miss, it doesn't seem to matter if I'm in an A-wing, or and X-wing. I'd really like to prefer my A-wing, I've always liked them, but at this point I don't see any reason to use it.

A-Wing requires a different style of thought to be of most use. Think "Fly between the laser bolts".

Granted the single gun does make you take longer to make a kill. But the advantage isn't in the firepower. If your last Tier 4 mission is the same as mine, a survival mission, you might have difficulty completing the mission in an X-Wing. Since the objective isn't to kill the incoming fighters, the extra firepower is irrelevant. But the maneuverability and smaller target cross-section is extremely relevant.

I can't agree more with the poster above on the merits of the awing. I use wo3, ro3, and eo3. I can take just about anything solo. The agressors necessitate a little diff strategy but overall the are pretty easy to light up. The only other ship i cruise around in is my firespray. That is mainly for the cooless factor and not the actual output of the ship. With the firespray I can put in a huge engine, shields, and firepower so it can tank a bit better when I want to go with that style and spray spacebombs all over.
