Thread: Player owned capital ships are confirmed =)
VSDs, ISDs, SSDs, and the MC80s are WAY too much to ask for. Vettes and gunboats would be doable, and still are technically "capital-class" ships insomuch that they're not fighters.
True ture, and that would also make people who dont really like flying stay away from it, including loot hunters. Plus, no one would want to buy it considerign that termif it took a lot of resources to build, which it would.
To borrow something from Star Trek, and only because I heard it on an ep of DS9 I Tivoed and watched tonight:
The 190th Ferengi Law of Acquisition: "Hear all, trust nothing."

i'll get excited when i see some patch notes about them being added. as of now, player owned capitol ships are the same to pilots as smuggling is to smugglers. lots of 'plans' and 'in the works' but we have yet to see anything on it.
i'm not saying i wouldn't want one, i'm just saying don't hold your breath ![]()
Rebels=one mon cal ship in deep space
Imps=duh
1 ship thats always up there would be neat, get zipped right up there and take a turrent!

Capital ships will never have enough players to make sense as player-owned ships. It would be nice to see them floating around, though....starfighters are great and all, but Star Wars isn't Star Wars without a couple dozen starfighters streaking by a pair of Star Destroyers, guns blazing, pilots hoping the Force will save them from a sticky end....
And, I really, really, really hope they don't put Hoth in the game. They can't implement it without it further wrecking canon.
I don't see any problems with this capital ship thing at all really. It could have a crew of NPCs and everytime a player joins the crew an NPCs would vanish from what ever station he/she wanted.
Hoth would rock! Well. Hoth would rock if we had Atmospheric Flight and combat. Which is what I hope they are doing with the next expansion!
Anyone ready enough of the EU to make a guess at what the Freelance ship would be? I really havent read up much on Star Wars lore so I dont know, pretty curious though to what others think.
I'd expect to see something like Carrack Cruisers, Bulk Cruisers, or Dreadnaughts available to neutrals. They're all some more dated/common ships, but they still pack a punch. Corvettes aren't overtly rebel either, so they're a possibility.
Some other ligth ships I'd expect to see (assuming they don't opt to forgo other known ships and make all new cap ships their own designs...)
- Modified Corellian Corvette
- Corellian Gunship
- Light Mon Cals - maybe (these might be a tad too big)
- Nebulon-B Frigate
- Space platforms
- Lancer Frigate
- Intridictors
- Escort Carriers
In all honesty, all three forces share a large pool of ships, with only a few factional-specific craft, being the very iconical ones like the Star Destroyers and Mon Cal cruisers. If they were to be done right I'd expect there to be a lot of all-profession capital ship classes.
