This is the one I use.

Go to your commands screen, and select the macro tab. Now make a new macro and call it mining. Put the following in the macro itself

/ui action targetSelf;
;
/ui action cycleTargetOutward;
;
/follow;
;
/ship WeaponGroup fireTractor;
;
/ship WeaponGroup fireProjectile;
;
/pause 1;
;
/macro mining;

The easiest way to do this is copy it from here and then paste it into the game. If you haven’t set up copy and paste commands in game do it now. just go to the options screen and set them up under key mapping.

This macro will fire your mining lasers if you put them in weapons group 1 (Use the G key in game to do this) and fire your tractor beam too (Don't put that in a weapons group).

Now creat another Macro called StopMining in it put this.

/dump;
;
/ship WeaponGroup stopTractor;

Again bind this macro to a key. This one will turn off everything in the mining macro, including the tractor beam.

With these macro's life will be a lot easier.

Now fit you mining laser, cargo hold and tractor beam to your ship and launch into space.

Once in the deep black, pull up the system map and auto pilot to the nearest asteroid that you want. Pull up near it and hit the macro for mining. Your ship will now go into autopilot and you will blast away at the asteroid with your mining lasers and then the macro will keep you following the chunks. Beacue the tractor beam fire continuously and the lasers only fire every second the tractor will mine most of the ore and give you its bonus.

It targets the nearest object so if you are attacked by pirates, you may need to use the StopMining macro and kill them then start it up again.

If you go out of range of the main asteroids while tracking down the pieces it will just target the nearest thing. Again just use the stop mining macro macro and go back to the asteroid and start again.

With these macro you can fill a large cargo hold 1550 units in around 15 mins.

The Advantages

This macro will mine with no interaction from yourself. It will fire the guns and use the tractor and because the tractor is always active most of the time you will get the bonus from it doing the mining and not the laser. You will not have to edit it everytime you change the type of asteroid you are mining because it targets the nearest object usualy the asteroid of the chunk.

The Disadvantages

If you are jumped by pirates or there is a ship closer to you than the asteroid or the chunks it will follow that instead of the asteroid.

Overall

I think I will switch to Oshax one and add in the lasers and tractor beam from mine as I think his has the edge, even though you need to edit it for each asteroid you are mining having it not target the ships or pirates is I think a big advantage.

One thing to note that any macro that uses follow will not work with the Y8 as far as I know because the gun is off center and the chunck it follows will be below the lvl of the main pilot controled gun. When the new turets are implimented this macro could be used very efectively with a crew of 2 as the pilot could use the macro and the guner could use tractor beams in the new turets to manualy shoot at the chunks

I used the macro posted by the OP and it made things soooo easy last night. It may not be as good as the guy who won't put out his macro but it definately beats what I was doing. 5*'s for you.

If you can make that work in a Y8 that'd be somethin'. <g>
