If you're looking for the most powerful gun you can loot, try to find a Ghyrix Laser Cannon (i think that's the name). I looted one a few weeks ago and the max damage is just under 4500, shield and armor effectiveness at .65 and .60. Mass was around 58k so perfect for a MP ship.

Well, I can say after having changed weapons a couple of times on my YT (and having noticed the same on Nova's), that the lower canon always has a white-flashy effect, much like an Ion canon.
