Thread: Dedicated pilots: how do you manage & store all your parts?
I use three houses. I dump them all in one or twohouses sorted by room/backpack and the component. All guns go in one bag, all engines in another, etc. When I'm ready to RE, I pull out all of a specific type, like level 6 guns, haul them over to the other house, and leave them in satchels. Then I bug a shipwright to come help me out.
I needed the three houses to have enough room to sort it.
Oh, I just sell all that level 10 stuff to the chassis vender, it's too heavy for my ships.
(Watching shipwrights cry. I'm kidding!)

I thought about this, but never tried it. I figured they would have seen that exploit. I am sure gonna use it now though.
as a chef it was how i kept all of my components straight. i'm sure it's not an exploit, it's actually a pretty useful 1 lot storage device.
I keep everything in separated furniture containers (armoire/toolbox/etc) in the small house that will eventually be my second character SW's "shop."
I do regularly clean out items that I know for sure I am not going to use, so I don't use more than 100-150 slots. Basically, I go in and dump a lot of boosters and bad armor drops for cash, odd level engines, reactors for which I don't even think there is much RE use and DI's that I can't justify the weight on (even if RE'd).
I hate a lot of clutter. Weapons are the hard one, as you can RE a lot of weapons level 7+ to come up with something really good.
Using the "best or scrap" method above, an accessable vendor where you place 999999999 (or whatever the max) priced bags labeled for ease of use ("Engines 6", "Capacitors 4", Weapon 8", etc), and all the "scrap" parts at 1/2 the chassis dealer rate. Ehile this will loose some monies in the short term, it gaurantees sales and will quickly net enough to hit the level of Merchant you feel will comfortably allow you to store your gear. An entrance fee of 1 is generally acceptable, speeds merchant XP, but not neccissary for such a short-term goal.
Afterwards, I always reccomend any pilot with merchants not directly sell to the chassis dealer at first. Place your parts up at or up to double the chassis dealer's rates. It helps other pilots and SWs gain access to parts that might not meet your standards, but fit theirs as filler, etc. Once the 30 days are up and the items drop back to my stockroom, I never re-sell them, but instead load them up into a backpack and head to the chassis dealer. If it hasn't sold in 30, it wont sell. Obviously, if a part doesnt meet your needs but still falls into an "exceptional" range, higher prices would be beneficial.
In the end, the vendor provides a ready-made storage system, and the possibility of both helping out your fellow pilot with your cast-offs, and increased profits from them, is a win-win for all.

You can actually get away with /no. I store everything. The good stuff we keep, the other stuff is picked out as RE filler or we just sell it on a vendor for the guild after the houses start filling up.
Yarr. I do /no myself, but just incase anyone would go what the heck is /no. the full command is /notepad lol.
How many items will each factory hold?

If you go this route, though - turn off your vendor search option, or you'll be getting solicitation emails for parts. I *used* to use a large house plus FOUR factories, but that was getting a little cramped, and gave me little to no room to breathe, so I decided to use my last respec to pick up Merchant.

I use a few houses and a vendor, but I find myself running out of room.
Collect long enough so that you know most of the high-end stats of most components. Write them all out in /note. Scrap everything that doesn't make the cut. Level 6 booster not at least 28.6 speed? scrap. level 6 shield not under 2000 RED? scrap.

I've been very tempted to do this, but I'm having a devil of a time figuring out what to sacrifice for the extra points. I'm a Master Carbineer/Master Artisan/Master Shipwright. The obvious choice is the Domestic Arts line of Artisan, but I find that I am too fond of the title. And there really isn't anywhere else I can cut the points from.
