I've been guilty of leaving gunboats on one or two occassions, but if I do, it's only because I forgot--and the last time I did, I paid for it, since I helped the guy blow the vette after I did.
I really try to clean up my mess, though, and it bothers me when people don't do it.

our guild has done countless vettes, following the "solo the vette in 5 easy steps" routine to a T. and yes, it is frustrating having to clean up after lazy mofo's before starting.

Went up with a group on radiant at the weekend and we all made sure the group took down gun5, escort screen, gunboats THEN vette in that order.
I think it's people solo-ing it that tend to leave them, I personally kill the vette then follow the gunboats and clean up if I'm solo-ing.

funny I find when with group or solo it's easier to blow them first

Depends what angle you are approaching the vette from I suppose, I approach it from underneath when solo'ing, it tends to hurt less if it decides to start it's "bucking brocno" trick on me from that angle.

Well in that group the gunboats had about a 10 second lifespan. Personally I don't mind too much of people leave the gunboats because then I know when the vette will spawn, but if I'm just playing in Kessel for fun it is nice to see a vette fly by now and then.

Whether I'm soloing or with a group, I always take down the vette exactly how you described, gun 5, escort fighters, gunboats, then vette. It's much more fun and if I'm soloing, gives others a better chance to hit the vette while I'm taking the escort. I don't want to steal the vette from someone that needs it, so this ensures better odds at someone needing it cruising by and taking the kill.

I think I'm going to make patroling kessle for stuck gunboats a regular mission for my squadron even if we don't have anyone going for ace that night.
