Thread: Bell Versus Star Destroyer in DS Bell Wins
Only time I've ever really felt like I've been in danger while taking it out was when I took a vaksai up there cos that thing is deceptively big.
I have to say though it *IS* fun when attacking it and a player or two shows up and you have a screen of tie fighters around it as well, now that's a rush, trouble is with my dodgy playing hours that doesn't happen a lot
90% of those people don't go to DS either. ask them why and they'll say "nobody is ever there!" while they grind tier 4 NPCs alone or fly around in kessel for hours staring at the black emptyness.
the problem with DS is it's not fun. the designers, in true SWG fashion, tossed the bare minimum of what qualifies as content into the zone, then made it an easy source of cash to lure people to it.
i really wish i could have been a part of whatever design meeting that the concept of deep space was introduced. i would have politely raised my hand and said "that's not fun. why do you want to make a game that isn't fun?"
yes, i realize some people do like games that aren't fun.i havefriends that have a game where they roll 2 dice and drink whatever # they roll. that's not fun. you're drunk in 3 minutes flat. it's hardly even a game.
anyway, games are all about immersion. it's why we have nice graphics, themes, sounds etc. why on earth would you design a zone that highlights, nay, SCREAMS, "this is stupid! NPC AI acting stupid! right here look!"? you seriously are telling me that the gunboat operator is just going to sit there stupidly flying into a zone wall while saying "i'll get you next time! i'm better than you!" while you pump shots into his tailpipe? (meanwhile his 2 buddies are just sitting there hoping you leave before you get to them). guns on the ships fire through ships? corvettes dodge for 10 seconds then forget how? the mighty imperial army can figure out giant turbolasers capable of destroying planets but they can't figure out a cell phone to call for help when their cruiser is being attacked by a lone a-wing?
it's absurd! to the guy who came up with this design: hey! you didn't even try.
anyway there's a few things (simple fixes) that can be done to make DS fun for everybody.
1. get rid of immersion breakers: yes, i'll be sad that my gunboat busting grind spot will be "nerfed". but if it was replaced with 1 or two blockade runners actually trying to run a blockade, with hard gunboat/fighter escorts that give chase and perform intelligently, i'd be happy. base a metagame off it. anything is better than what we got now. they are flying around pinballing off the walls for chrissake. the walls! in space.

If they really want to increase PvP combat all they really have to do it remove decay from repairs when using a repair kit.
In Deep Space that's already the case. Or at least it's supposed to be. There's been a couple of incidents of people getting blown up in deep space and not auto-repairing like they should. Basically the DEVs thought the same way you do now about a year ago when DS began to die out in popularity. They removed all forms of damage and decay from Deep Space. So basically when you went in, you were guarenteed to come out with no new dents in your hull, even if you'd been blown to bits in the interim.
